I Wanna Go Home – The story begins with Tyson (Rob Collins) trying to escape the bloodsucker tunnel, with Shanika’s mum. He yells for Shanika (Shantae Barnes-Cowan) to pull him up, as the Vampire King (Callan Mulvey) attempts to catch him. Tyson escapes the tunnel without Shanika’s mum, Rona (Natasha Wanganeen) who is drug back to the bleeder room. The Vampire King transfuses blood to save her. Tyson awakens to find Shanika still asleep. He helps her to the car.
At Jalingbirri’s semi-truck, Tyson pours water on Shanika’s head. She suggests they make new weapons and gather medical supplies from the clinic before attempting another rescue for Rona. Tyson says it is stupid, they need to worry about themselves. She hops on her motorcycle and heads to the clinic alone. Tyson buries Jalingbirri’s (Kelton Pell) head.
Kitty Sinclair (Ngaire Pigram) walks in just in time to watch Shanika fill her bag full of medical supplies. Tyson works on his car as Kitty pulls in. She called Welfare because Shanika was beaten up. Tyson angrily jumps in his car and drives away at a high rate of speed. He arrives at the Welfare office to speak with Richard (Aaron Cartwright), but first, he puts his boomerang in his car. Child services’ main concern is Shanika’s absentees. Tyson claims it is a woman’s problem. They are also worried about her well-being. He says she is a clumsy kid who shoots flawlessly. Richard is stunned that Shanika is around weapons. He orders home visits and drug/alcohol testing. Tyson angrily grabs his shirt and admits to understanding the parental plan because he isn’t an idiot. Tyson has a flashback of the bloodsucker attack on Shanika’s mother while getting drunk.
At the group home, Shanika is at the kitchen table with Jenny (Eugenia Fragos) and four other teenagers. Clint sniggers during the prayer. Tessa (Gemma Trueman) hands Shanika a spoon. The woman asks she isn’t eating. She isn’t hungry.
The Vampire King gives Rona water. Lucas (Sam Dungmore) and other vampires complain about the damage caused by a “boomerang and little girl in nappies.” The Vampire King kills a bloodsucker when he says there has been nothing but death since his arrival. He orders Lucas to move his sleeping chamber.
Shanika notices her belongings are gone. Her roommate says they take all weapons and items that can be made into a weapon. Shanika refuses her offer of clothes. She believes Tyson will pick her up tomorrow. Tyson is sitting in his car outside the group home. Shanika sees his car drive away.
Two bloodsuckers kill three campers.
Aunty Maria (Tessa Rose) and Smokey (Greg Tait) tell Tyson about the campers. He accuses her of spreading rumors about the bloodsuckers. He shrugs it off, saying everyone lost someone. She says they need a real blood hunter. Tyson says he died and heads to the local bar.
Clint and Seb (Joe Romeo) approach Shanika while she does laundry. Clint (Tjiirdm McGuire) grabs and shoves her against the washer. He says learn your place. Jenny asks what’s the racket about and tells them to help her. The boys leave her lying on the ground, clutching her injured arm. As she brushes her teeth, she hears a banging and crying in a shower stall. Tessa attempted suicide because the boys wouldn’t leave her alone. Jenny alerts them of Tessa’s condition. She was sent to the clinic for stitches. Shanika angrily says she will not be okay. Jenny asks if she knows something. Clint snarky says, “Another crazy black girl” as he stares at her intently.
At the local bar, drunken Tyson mistakes Kristie (Nyasha Ogden) for Shanika. Spud (Jai Koutrae) asks bartender Elona (Yael Stone) where Carly is. She doesn’t know. Spud hires Kristie. Tyson and Elona continue taking shots of liquor. At the bus stop, Tyson takes his anger out on a few bloodsuckers and realizes he peed his pants.
Jenny tells the girls she will be doing 15-minute checks.
Tyson is back at the bar when Kitty enters. He scolds her for calling Welfare. She demands to know who is harming Shanika. He calls Kitty a “fu**wit” and hopes she chokes on a chip. A bloodsucker sitting at a bench keeps an eye on Kristie.
After Jenny checks on the girls, Shanika rouses Tessa awake. With her pillowcase in hand, they head over to the boy’s room. They attack the boys as they sleep. Shanika breaks a stink in half and utilizes it to threaten the boys. Tessa pleads with Shanika to kill them.
Elona and Kristie knock on the door at Jalingbirir’s truck, where Tyson is passed out. He washes his face before answering the door. Kristie was injured by bloodsuckers. Elona doesn’t believe their attackers were human. Kristie warns Tyson to watch out, glancing at Elona. Tyson grabs his boomerang and swings at Elona who transitions into a vampire. Tyson orders Kristie to get to the car. He stuns Elona with a shot to the chest. He and Kristie head to the hospital, but they don’t make it. He stops the car to check on her. When he realizes she is gone, he takes her cross necklace. He has a flashback of the night the bloodsuckers took Rona. Jalingbiri tries to convince Tyson to not take Shanika, calling him weak.
Tyson digs a grave for Kristie. He arrives at Kitty’s place to ask a favor.
At the group home, Jenny asks the boys what happened. Clint says nothing. She sends to do their chores except for Shanika who has someone waiting to pick her up. She is disappointed when Kitty picks her up instead of Tyson.
The Vampire King gives Rona a blood transfusion.
Shanika unpacks her belongings when Kitty gives her a gift from Tyson. She sits down on the bed and looks through Jalingbiri’s diary. Jalingbiri provides narration about bloodsuckers as Tyson studies Shanika’s tunnel map and packs weapons into a bag. He enters the bar and Spud tells him it is Elona’s night off. Spud says she is not your type. Tyson assumes Spud knows something. He gets into a fight with a male customer, taking a glass and smashing it against his forehead. Spud orders him to stop but he continues to instigate a fight with the man.
Kitty leaves Shanika alone to go help Alma (Lizzy Falkland). A female strangles Shanika with a rope as the episode comes to an end.
Firebite Review
Not much has changed as far as the ridiculous fighting scenes. The bright image flashes are atrociously unnecessary.
Well, the woke dialogue is back. White boys picking on two teenagers because they are black and female. The acting is spot-on, but not not the dialogue so much. The continuous use of alcohol doesn’t make a good impression on the indigenous community.
The episode deserves a 5.
