Fear The Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 2 Recap

season 8 episode 2 fear the walking dead june

Blue Jay – As this episode of Fear The Walking Dead begins, June Dorie (Jenna Elfman) packs her supplies and looks through a peephole. She leaves messages warning the others about Padre being alive. On the radio, Warbler tells a woman that he is 10 minutes out. She has a lead on an egg. June shoots two people on a boat. June goes over while they’re still out to take a finger from one of the men. After taking the men’s fingers, June pushes the boat on its way. As the men radio in that they’ve been hit, June puts the fingers in a jar with others. June hears on the radio that the rescue is complete. She sees a billboard for the Coastal Railroad Museum.

Soon, a man enters June’s hut and asks her not to shoot him. He explains he is the guy who has been writing on her signs. He needs her help with his daughter named Hannah because the collector took her years ago. Adrian is convinced that June can help him even if she doesn’t know Hannah. She tells him to get out and not to come back. Adrian shows June a picture of Hannah as well as the bracelet she made him. He argues there are many like-minded people who’d help her do what she is doing. They’re forming an army to take on Padre. June doesn’t think he is getting his daughter back if Padre has had her for this long.

Adrian is adamant that he isn’t going to stop. June moves him out and shuts the door behind him. The following day, June attacks more collectors. When she checks the man’s face, she sees scars on his face. June is confronted by Finch (Gavin Warren) who has a rifle. He threatens to tell Padre what she did. As Finch uses the radio to notify Padre, Red Kite and Starling begin waking up. June takes the gun from Finch, but the boat gets shot in the process. Finch claims she was trying to steal the boat. Dwight (Austin Amelio) says they need help because they think Finch has appendicitis. He tells the others not to tell Padre where they are because June is going to do the surgery. Sherry (Christine Evangelista) says his appendix could burst by the time they get him to the clinic.

Dwight threatens to tell Padre who has been cutting off the collectors’ fingers if she doesn’t perform the surgery. June asks why they’re making her do this. Sherry questions what happened to her. If June does the surgery, they’ll get her a boat and let her take it wherever she wants. June suspects Finch is their kid. Sherry reveals that he doesn’t know Dwight is the father. Dwight says they’ve been following Padre’s rules so they haven’t spent time together in years. Once the surgery is done, they’ll take Finch back and no one will know what happened. June agrees to do the surgery as long as they hold up their end of the deal. June takes them to the place where she wants to perform the surgery.

June gives Finch something to help him fall asleep. Then, she says she is ready to start the anesthesia. When Sherry finds a book containing June’s experiments, she wants answers. Adrian enters with a gun and suspects something is up since she is with two collectors. Sherry and Dwight suggest they can help because Padre hasn’t lost a kid yet. When Adrian gets a message on his radio, he grabs it. Dwight tries to take his gun. The control panel is shot causing the power to go out. Walkers hear the gunshot and begin approaching the train. Adrian (Jonathan Medina) isn’t allowed to grab the radio from the ground. Dwight tells him that they brought Finch there to save his life.

June says they will need to use the emergency override at the back of the train to turn on the power. Sherry guards Adrian while Dwight tries to reach the override switch. June tells him that he can’t walk through the train. It is full of dead. June used to work there, but Padre didn’t anyone to know. She explains that the woman in the photo is Shrike (Maya Eshet) and she works for Padre. They were trying to find a way to stop the effect of walker bites. Shrike through radiation would help. It was worse than dying from the bites. June ran because she didn’t want to continue administering treatments. Adrian apologizes to June who still doesn’t want to help him.

Adrian says help him or get Finch out of there before the collectors come back. The power comes back on. As Dwight and Sherry try to come back inside, he notices something is going on with her. Sherry explains that she can’t snap back to the way things used to be. She doesn’t think she can bring Finch back there because this doesn’t feel safe. Sherry suggests leaving. Once they’ve settled somewhere, they can find a way to let the people inside know the truth about Padre. Sherry is confident that they can do this. They end up falling through the roof of the train and into walkers. Dwight tells June what happened using the radio. He refuses to let June help, but he asks her to take care of Finch if they don’t make it back.

June wants to go anyway. Adrian asks if she is doing that because it is what is best for the kid. He wonders if she is just afraid she might have to take care of him. June tells him not to follow her before leaving. June walks past the walkers she experimenting on only to find a lock on the door. The walkers break free and come after her. They eventually get her on the ground until Adrian saves her. He tells her that she needs to find someone to live for. Adrian insists he is going to find Hannah regardless before Finch offers to come with them because he can handle the carrion. They kill the zombies in time to save Dwight and Sherry. They try to explain to him that they’re not going back to Padre.

June wants to get him back to the operating room. Adrian sees Hannah outside and immediately turns on June. June insists she tried to take care of Hannah when she arrived. Adrian asks if Shrike put Hannah through that treatment, but June admits it was her treatment. She saw someone survive a bite longer than anyone she had ever seen. She had been exposed to radiation so she thought it might work for others. June gave her radiotherapy. Although it stopped the infection, the amount of radiation just made things worse for her. June wanted to end her suffering, but Shrike wanted to let her turn. She insists she didn’t have a choice because Shrike held a gun on her.

The whole place happened because she tried to save someone she cared about. Padre made sure other people suffered as a result. June took Shrike’s trigger finger to make sure she couldn’t do that again. She ran because she knew they couldn’t do the experiments without her. Adrian admits Hannah was all he had left. He understands why June wants to be alone now. Adrian goes outside and lets the walkers attack him. June finishes the operation and says Finch should be awake soon. Dwight promises to get her the boat, but they want to go with her too. When Finch wakes up, they want to take him away from this place. Dwight wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for June and John.

He wants her to be a part of his family if June wants to be. June wants to put Adrian and Hannah to rest because they’ve suffered enough. Before she can leave, Shrike enters with a man and they attack her. They restrain her. Shrike admits she figured it was June as soon as the collectors started showing up without fingers. She also knew that June would come there. Dwight asks what is going on. Shrike says this place was about saving lives, but Dwight doesn’t believe that. Dwight insists he brought Finch there to keep him safe. Shrike says no one wants the kids safe more than Padre. She believes June can get the cure right this time. Padre has something big planned.

June needs to pick up where she left off. They bring in Adrian’s head and use it to try to force June to help them. The head is allowed to bite Finch. Dwight tells Shrike that he is going to kill her. June is told that she better get to work. Shrike wants to make sure Blue Jay can never hurt them ever again so she takes June’s finger. Madison (Kim Dickens) asks Morgan (Lennie James) where they’re taking them, but Morgan doesn’t know either. Madison asks what happened before saying they may not be alive long enough for her to pass judgment on him. Morgan has been thinking about something he didn’t do a long time ago. It doesn’t matter because he can’t fix the worst of it.

She tells him that he needs to do whatever it takes so he can move forward. Morgan begins yelling for them to pull over because she can’t breathe. Madison uses the distraction to help Morgan escape.

Fear The Walking Dead Review

This episode of Fear the Walking Dead was easily better than the first this season even if it doesn’t match the quality of the earlier installments. The episode primarily focused on June who has been attacking collectors and cutting off their fingers. She supposedly did this to get back at Shrike and to stop her from harming others. Although it was a decent episode, some aspects of the story were slightly unrealistic.

Cutting off trigger fingers wouldn’t stop the collectors from doing their thing, especially if June is only removing one finger. It is also silly that the collectors can’t get close to June’s hut without her knowing about it, but Adrian walked right through the door without being detected. The writing could be better. However, the biggest problem is the zombies because they look so cheap.

They should’ve put more money into making the zombies look better, but it seems like they’re trying to reduce expenses to boost revenue. This was still a better episode despite these problems. It deserves a 6 out of 10. Recaps of Fear The Walking Dead can be found on Reel Mockery here.
