The Little Ones – As the fifth episode of Fantasmas begins, Julio (Julio Torres) talks about his current predicament. He calls Vanejsa (Martine Gutierrez) with an idea he believes will make him an exception. Vanejsa thinks he should do something with his story. She says he can call it Gaytino, but Julio likes the idea of using Gaytinx. She tells him to do the credit card commercial, get what he needs, and move on. Julio tries shooting the commercial. Since he can’t smile, they end up using green tape to replace his lips. At home, Julio speaks to Pirulinpinpina about the post it made on his behalf.
She still doesn’t get it right. Piru and Vanejsa tell Julio not to use tone with her. Vanejsa has hopes for the commercial. She speaks to her client, Dustin (Dylan O’Brien), and tells him he’ll have to wear something of hers. He wears her lingerie when he meets her. Dustin says he feels like the world is so screwed up. He took the subway yesterday because he wants to be living and experiencing. Dustin spoke to a homeless man who didn’t have the money to re-enter the station. Dustin argues that the world is not fair and that’s just one guy. He believes he should help others. Vanejsa thinks he should use this to do an interview with Teen Vogue, but Dustin says he’s 39. He doesn’t think she gets it because she’s just a suit.
Aurelio tells a friend about his roommate. He let nine of her cousins stay. At one point, Piru asks Aurelio if they can move in. He didn’t know that they multiply so there are 50 of them now. One day, Aurelio invites a guy home only for Piru and her friends to go crazy when they the word “pizza”. Aurelio goes to the bathroom. When he returns, Diego has gone missing. He walked into the master bedroom where he found the little ones pleasing Diego. Aurelio’s friend tells him to call them out on their BS. Seconds later, Aurelio and his friend see Diego with the little ones. Gina (Greta Titelman) and Bibo (Joe Rumrill) perform a scene from Marriage Story. The instructor argues that Bibo is forcing Gina to overact.
Gina gives him encouragement. Meanwhile, Julio worries that his mole has grown and that it may be cancerous. He uses an app to get in touch with an online doctor. A woman online shopping receives it and says it looks fine. She gets distracted and pushes the wrong button. The woman accidentally tells Julio that it’s dire and he needs a biopsy. Julio checks out the equipment including a scalpel. He tries to tell Vicky only to get distracted by the shipwreck ornament in the case below him. Julio notices that it’s missing an oyster. He asks if they’ll upload him if he brings it back to them since it’s a family heirloom. They agree. Tyler, Ryan, Ryan, and Jason get together to hang out. Trish joins them and they learn she’s an actor. She pays an artist for artwork.
Then, she posts it pretending to be a fan. Her friends say she’s so famous she has fan accounts. The artist, Luis, contacts TrishFanboy to say he made the artwork in question for charity. Trish contacts him to say they won’t be able to compensate him for the piece. Luis believes she is running the fan account. Others find out that she paid for her own fan art. Trish asks her friends how to deal with an online stalker. She takes Derrick to the bathroom to ask him about blocking someone permanently. Trish admits to running the fan account and claims her manager Emily found the artist. Derrick soon learns that Emily is likely a lie as well. He knows no one is posting fake photos of her or catfishing her. Derrick goes on to say she isn’t famous. Trish attacks him and knocks him out.
Bibo stops near Trish who contacts someone to say Derrick was drunk and may have hurt himself. Bibo downloads her skillset. A woman runs into Vanesja on the street and calls her Martine. She was Vanesja’s teacher and heard she was an agent now. Vanesja tells her she has a very important client waiting. The teacher calls her weak before leaving. Vanesja remembers what Dustin said. She calls Julio to say they’re going to have to find another way to get him an exception. Vanesja explains he looks amazing in the photo but it’s not his face. She wants to pitch his idea to Zappos. Julio says he won’t be selling out, but he pitches the idea to Zappos anyway. The woman in charge knows he wants an exception from Proof of Existence. She says they want his trauma in a funny way.
Julio has an idea for an emergency with a script called “How I Came Out To My Abuela”. She likes that idea.
Fantasmas Review
The fifth episode of Fantasmas was a little scattered with some ideas that worked more than others. Nevertheless, the core ideas remain strong. In this episode, influencers and some of their tactics were covered. If viewers look beneath the weirdness of Fantasmas, they will find some valuable lessons here.
The series isn’t always humorous, but it is always easy to watch. The show has a relaxed mood that makes it easy to watch even when the humor isn’t hitting the target. Fantasmas expects very little from viewers and the laidback presentation makes it worth the experience.
