Fallen Series 1 Episode 6 Recap

Roland Daniel Fallen SBS Demand

Episode 6 begins in complete pandemonium in the wake of the recent security breach and the Outcast’s (Adam Zambryzczky) escape. Still underground, Luce/Lucinda Price (Jessica Alexander) briefly remembers riding on the back of a motorcycle with Daniel Grigori (Gijs Blom) before Dr. Clifford Howson (Alexander Siddig) and Ms. Sophia Miriam (Sarah Niles) show up. It becomes immediately clear that Daniel needs medical attention and Luce is apprehensive to let Howson anywhere near him. After realizing there is no other option, Luce is taken to the chapel by Tasha (Sam Bell) where she joins several other residents. Molly (Maura Bird) is just as concerned as Luce when she learns that Daniel has been left in the care of Howson.

Arriane (Josefine Koenig) and Penn Lockwood (Esme Kingdom) are locked in a smaller meeting room where they are ordered to remain until told otherwise. Arriane not only quickly picks up on Penn’s new behavior but she also notices that she’s taking a new medication. Whatever it is, Arriane appears to be familiar with it and advises Penn to not take it. It appears that she’s convinced her for the moment.

Things only become stranger in the chapel when Gabbe (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) arrives with Cassie (Laura Majid). Luce is in the process of finding Cassie dead with strange markings, but Cam (Timothy Innes) immediately stops her. He also privately tells Luce later that although he’s miraculously recovered from many near-death experiences, he’s never actually come back from the dead, as Cassie supposedly has.

When the footage switches to Howson and Daniel, the markings are explained as shard wounds from an Outcast attack. Not only are they identified by the strange markings, but they have apparently caused an infection that will kill Daniel if it reaches his heart.

Once Luce fills the others in on what happened to Daniel, it doesn’t take long before the topic of debate becomes the Outcast and its telepathic, shapeshifting abilities. As Cassie offers a more thorough explanation of the creature, Howson appears to have some success with stopping the spread of the infection. While under the knife, Daniel has a brief memory of what appears to be a whole different life that he and Luce had together. The memory also reveals that they both had jobs and he didn’t yet have the scars on his back.

Cassie explains the Outcasts as creatures who were unwittingly ripped from their homelands and will stop at nothing to get back. Cam and Molly are the first to admit that it sounds like she is telling a fairy tale. Roland Sparks (Lawrence Walker) joins them after learning about the Outcast’s weapons and abilities to inflict horrific injuries. When Howson successfully purges the remaining pathogens from Daniel’s body it causes him to remember more from his and Luce’s other life together. This one isn’t as pleasant as the other as they appear to be arguing about being followed by someone he doesn’t trust.

When the power grid goes offline, Arriane suffers a panic/claustrophobia attack that leads to her leaving the room she and Penn were ordered to remain in. Penn appears to go after her and purposely leaves behind her new medication. The security team at the chapel prepares to relocate the residents to the archives. Ms. Sophia pleads with her sister to let her help but it’s clear that she doesn’t trust her or Howson or want her help.

As the residents make their way to the archives, Luce tells Cam about the clone/body she saw in Howson’s underground lab. He appears to believe her. Cassie overhears their discussion and later privately tells Luce knows about the body, but only half the story. When Luce tries to learn more, she’s told to speak with Daniel. The group soon finds themselves scrambling when the Outcast attacks the guard leading their relocation.

When Sophia meets with Howson to catch him up on the power failure, Daniel goes into ventricular tachycardia. Although Howson appears to stabilize him for the moment, they have to rush him to the med bay if they want to save his life. Daniel’s memory shows him and Luce leaving a motel on the motorcycle. The chapel group has nearly reached the archives when something causes Luce to stop them. After a few tense minutes, they are surprised by Penn and Arraine’s arrival. Their reunion is interrupted by the arrival of the Outcast and eventually ends with them in the archives.

Despite there being a well-stocked armory in the archives, the residents don’t have access. Instead, they spend their time reminiscing over the items they brought with them when they first arrived. This is until Luce spots Daniel’s belongings and becomes impatient. Things only become strained when the others refuse to go after Daniel. After a bit of heated back and forth, Cam admits to having a deal with Howson. Although he doesn’t go into great detail at the moment, he does tell Luce that he would never do anything to her. The group doesn’t get much time to chew on this thanks to a tremor or vibration of sorts.

Things don’t appear to be going well for Daniel as he isn’t responding to Howson’s attempts to revive him. As Howson continues his attempts to shock life back into Daniel, he remembers the motorcycle accident that took Luce’s life. Although the accident appears to be nothing more than an accident, the SUV that hits them transforms into a flock of ravens after the collision.

By now Luce’s group has made it to the cafeteria where they are contacted by Ms. Miriam and ordered to stay. This becomes out of the question when Luce begins to sense the Outcast. She eventually realizes that the creature will stop at nothing to get to her and decides to sacrifice herself, much to the displeasure of the group.

Luce radios Miriam and tells her to meet her at the intersection under Howson’s office. Luce arrives first where she is met by the Outcast posing as Daniel. She suspects the deception from the beginning and as brief as the conversation is, it is suggested that creatures cannot return home without her. Miriam eventually shows up and shoots the creature. Miriam later tells Luce that they loaded their guns with ordnances from the star shot. That is apparently the only thing that can kill the Outcasts.

Nearly at the same time, Howson declares Daniel dead. This also briefly completes his memory to reveal Howson showing up after the motorcycle accident, promising to take care of him. Daniel is then later shown in Howson’s office at what appears to be a later time where he talks about Luce always dying no matter what he does. Miriam tells him that the institute was made specifically to keep him safe and Luce will be reborn again. Miriam assures him that when she is reborn, they will find her. Although Howson adds that he can help Daniel forget the pain, Daniel appears to be at wit’s end.

He eventually asks to see the body so that he can say goodbye. As he does this, Luce does the same thing in the present timeline. However, when she kisses him in the present, it appears to bring him back to life. He cryptically apologizes and tells her that he can’t love her.

The episode ends with Penn reviewing the security footage from the night of the campfire. It appears that she’s learned the truth about her father being alive.

Fallen Review

Episode 6 was poised to be one of the better episodes, but I unfortunately have to say that it failed, at least in my eyes. Although some things were explained, too much was left in the open, as usual. There are still 2 episodes left and things are somewhat self-explanatory but they are only suggestive. It’s just like they keep dropping hints here and there to give you just enough to make you think you understand then something else will change your mind. It’s all a bit annoyingly confusing but I can’t stop watching. For that, I’d give the episode a 5.3 out of 10.
