Doc Season 1 Episode 10 Finale Recap

Must Come Down – As the finale of Doc begins, a man stops his vehicle on the train tracks and lets the train hit him. Dr. Amy Larsen (Molly Parker) thinks about TJ Coleman (Patrick Walker) and his father’s treatment. She remembers kissing Michael Hamda (Omar Metwally) and Richard Miller (Scott Wolf) telling her she killed Bill Dixon. Amy calls TJ to see if she can get an update since she’s been kicked off the case. Katie (Charlotte Fountain-Jardim) enters and checks on her mother. Amy learns about the train derailment from a news report. There are nine fatalities and 43 injuries. Amy rushes to work to help the victims. Michael leaves something in the vehicle while confirming mass casualty incident protocol has been activated. Nora (Sarah Allen) tries to get his attention to give him what he forgot. She gets messages on the tablet from Amy who wants to talk but not about what happened last night.

Amy catches up with TJ who says the chance of reversing his father’s paralysis is gone. She doesn’t want to believe she was wrong. Richard speaks to the team and says the number of wounded has climbed to 84. He gets them ready for what they’re about to see. Patients are rushed in moments later. One woman recognizes a man and calls him a hero since he got multiple people out of the burning train. The man, Bradley Hahn, tells Jake Heller (Jon-Michael Ecker) he just did what anyone would’ve. Jake tries to find him a room so he can have some privacy. Richard talks to Amy about making mistakes and making up for those mistakes. He hopes she can just move forward, but Amy isn’t sure she can do that. Meanwhile, Gina Walker (Amirah Vann) tries to get in touch with someone. She asks Nurse Julie (Claire Armstrong) to find out whether an Ian Flores (Aristotle Domingo) was admitted this morning. Jake tries to speak to Amy about her conversation with Richard.

She doesn’t want to talk about it right now. Amy steps out to help Nurse Liz (Conni Miu) with Melody Foy (Melanie Leishman). Melody says she’s getting ready to marry Jeremy Hardy (Al Mukadam). Amy notices a cut on his arm and asks Liz to take care of it. She asks Melody where it hurts. She soon finds out that Melody’s ankle is badly injured. Amy yells for Sonya Maitra (Anya Banerjee) to get her assistance. Amy sends Jeremy to the waiting area. Gina calls other hospitals to see if she can find Ian. She tells Julie that Ian is her patient and she believes he caused the crash. TJ, Julie, and Sonya argue about whether one of the patients can be saved. Jeremy tries to get more information from Amy. He tells her that he’s a mess because of his love for Melody. Amy admits she’s really not okay. Jeremy collapses seconds later. Amy begins tending to him and asks for an airway cart. In the bathroom, Sonya tells Amy that Melody asked to see her because she wants to know about Jeremy.

Amy doesn’t see the point because the law says she can’t tell Melody anything. Amy goes back to her original rude ways. Sonya asks why she’s being like this. Amy goes on a rant and upsets Sonya who leaves. Jake speaks to the hero, Bradley Hahn. The man admits his family doesn’t think he’s a hero. Jake believes his son would be proud of him today. Theresa Coleman (Cherion Drakes) speaks to Randy (Demore Barnes). TJ watches them together from the doorway. Michael ignores a call from Nora. He tells Julie that they’ve set up a blood drive downstairs. Michael informs Gina that Ian Flores isn’t on the latest casualties report. Amy interrupts to ask who they’re talking about. When Michael storms off, Amy asks what is going on. Michael and Amy watch the police enter the hospital with the driver, Ian. Richard yells that he’s a patient so they need to snap out of it and do their jobs. Gina tells MPD Sergeant Dove (Thomas Mitchell) that Ian is her patient.

Dove says Ian’s last call was to Gina who insists she didn’t know he was going to do this. MPD Sergeant Lee (Evan Annisette) suggests she just doesn’t want to tell them. Amy and the others work to save Ian, but it appears he’s too far gone. Meanwhile, Sonya tries to help Ziggy (Tommy Tang). They believe they can bring him back with prolonged CPR. Gina lets the MPD officers and Michael listen to the call from Ian Flores. She says she got it after it was too late. The officers why he wanted to be held accountable. Gina says Ian hit an 11-year-old girl one morning on the way to work. Although the witnesses said it wasn’t his fault, Ian couldn’t get over it. Gina suggests Ian just wanted to kill himself and didn’t know his actions would derail the train. TJ and the others struggle to save Ziggy. Michael tells Gina that the police left. Gina tells Michael how patients feel when they’re depressed. She believes the worst of all is guilt. Michael argues it’s not her fault, but Gina hates it when people say that. She says it feels like it is and that’s what Ian was trying to tell her.

Gina just wants to be allowed to feel how she feels. Sonya gets a pulse on Ziggy who opens his eyes. Nora enters and finds Michael on the phone working. She asks him what happened last night with Amy. Michael says she was having a crisis and he was comforting her. As a result, they kissed. Nora tells him they’ll talk about it was home. She runs into Amy on the way out. Nora tells Amy that she loves Michael in ways she couldn’t anymore. She claims Amy destroyed him and she picked up the pieces. She also helped raise Katie. Sonya overhears Nora telling Amy she had her chance and messed it up.

Amy is leaning against the tub when Katie enters. She gets up and daps her eyes with a tissue. Concerned, Katie asks what is wrong. Amy assures her she is fine. Fearing it is happening again, Katie pleads with her not to shut her out because she doesn’t want to lose her. Embracing her, Amy apologizes, and admits to screwing up. Katie asks if it is fixable and urges her to take accountability for her actions. A short time later, Amy visits Patty Dixon (Deborah Grover) to talk to her about Bill Dixon (Shawn Lawrence). Patty tells her that Bill was her world and she finds talking to him soothing. Amy asks about the glasses on the mantle. Patty says they are his, so he can watch over her. Amy expresses guilt for his death because she feels party responsible. Surprised, Patty says the hospital staff said he aspirated and couldn’t be revived. When Amy says she prescribed him a beta blocker before he died, Patty insists it never happened. Bill had hypotension.

Asleep on the sofa, Michael wakes when his phone rings. Nora scolds him for not coming home. He tries to explain but she ends the call. Jake shows his patient, Bradley, a news report about his rescuing passengers involved in a train derailment. Joey Hahn (Declan Cooper) tells a WDZT reporter, Mackenzie Cole (Melanie Ng) that he is proud of his father. Minutes later, Bradley’s wife (Kerry Ann Doherty) and Joey arrive. Jake watches as Bradley embraces Joey. TJ walks up to Amy and embraces her. Surprised, she asks what this is about. He says she was right about his father being able to walk and apologizes for how he acted. She assures him that nothing he could say would make her feel differently about him. He thanks her and walks away. Jake asks Amy if she has been avoiding him. Liz makes eye contact with her in passing. She promises to tell him more later, rushes to catch up with Liz, and demands to know the truth.

Amy told Michael and Max Garner (Darrin Baker) that Richard convinced her she prescribed Bill a beta blocker. During a meeting, Amy confronts Richard about what Patty told her and accuses him of administering the Metoprolol and killing Bill. Four months earlier, Richard received a call from Minneapolis Police Officer Fornay alerting him of Lucas being charged with vandalism and resisting arrest. Richard says Lucas is mentally ill and must be released. Fornay says Lucas will be kept in a holding cell until someone picks him up. Bill arrests and a medical team works to revive him. Richard shocks him with defibrillator paddles and orders 300 milligrams of Amiodarone. Liz collects a syringe, drops it, and bends over to pick it up. Richard takes over, draws the medicine into a syringe, and administers it via an IV line. Bill’s condition worsens. Realizing he administered Metoprolol, Richard draws Amiodarone into a syringe and drops the vial on the floor. Back to the present, Richard confesses. Garner warns that he will be disciplined and his license suspended. Richard apologizes to Amy. She cannot forgive him for trying to pin it on her at her most vulnerable. Garner tells her that she violated hospital policy when she spoke to Patty. She argues that there will be no repercussions for what she did and demands he write Patty a check. She’s going to stop doing cartwheels for the board. In a few years, she may consider being chief again.

Jeremy wakes up and finds Amy looking at him. She tells him he had a brain bleed but they caught it in time. Amy says his current condition will be temporary. She says something similar happened to her a few months ago. Amy tells him he can’t give up. Melody is allowed to see Jeremy moments later. Gina is going to leave because she needs to deal with some stuff. Amy asks what is wrong. Gina says the time to ask that was yesterday. She refuses to let Amy make it right. Richard receives a call from Victoria. He packs his stuff and leaves. TJ and the others celebrate at the pub. Jake joins them and checks his messages from Amy. She tells him she’s working late and will talk to him tomorrow.

Sonya tells him he can’t waste his life on someone who doesn’t really see him. She says she heard Michael’s wife confront her about it. Jake doesn’t want to believe it and storms out. He goes back to the hospital. Amy confronts Michael who admits he was waiting for her. They agree they should talk. Jake finds them together.

Doc Review

The finale of Doc was pretty much exactly what viewers should’ve expected and that’s not a good thing. The episode tackled a mass casualty situation although it really just turned into a big soap opera with a little preaching session from Gina. The writing is beyond juvenile with Amy being perfect at every turn.

In this episode, we could see the old side of Amy that surely wouldn’t disappear. She is easily one of the most unlikable leads in any modern television series. Although she’s committed crimes and resuscitated a DNR patient, she always finds a way to shine and she’s always right about everything.

As a result, there are no surprises here. Continuing with Amy Larsen as the main lead is a horrible mistake because the character is despicable. The whole Richard Miller angle should’ve never happened considering that character is tons more likable than Amy and it’s unrealistic anyway.

The finale would’ve been better if Dr. Amy Larsen had found herself in the path of the train and no one else was injured. The series cannot continue with such an unlikable character in the lead role and the writing being so idiotic.

Truthfully, 10 episodes of Doc have been more than enough to realize this is a weak, poorly acted medical drama. There’s no way I would even consider sticking with this for 20-some episodes and through weeks of pain and suffering. The Canadian production shines through at every turn with the weaker-than-usual performances.

This episode scores a 4 out of 10. Recaps of Doc can be found here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising with us here. Join the discussion here.
