Happy Birthday – As the seventh episode of Cross begins, Ed Ramsey (Ryan Eggold) plays a video about the execution process in Florida while Shannon Whitmer (Eloise Mumford) is restrained nearby. Ed has the same system used in Florida so he is apparently going to lethally inject Shannon. At home, Alex Cross (Aldis Hodge) speaks to Nana Mama (Juanita Jennings) about Damon’s shoes. Damon (Caleb Elijah) asks if he can wear his mom’s watch to the recital. Alex thinks she’d love it. He tells Damon to wear it to the rehearsal so he can get used to playing it with it on. In private, Nana tells Cross that she talked to his friend Kowaleski. She insists she got the answers they’ve been looking for. The retired detective mentioned the name Peter Lenox. Nana tells Alex to see Peter before someone gets hurt. Vega calls Cross who runs out.
At the scene, Officer Molina (Liisa Cohen) tells Alex that Oracene Massey (Sharon Taylor) called in a welfare check on Mike before he was found dead. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Cross remembers his conversation with Senator Caitlin Goldman (Marion Adler). Detective John Sampson (Isaiah Mustafa) meets Massey and talks to her about Mike’s murder. Massey asks John to be her baby’s godfather. He agrees to do it. Massey asks how they’re going to catch Ramsey. John thinks it’s best if they keep Chief Anderson out of the loop. Massey wants to know if he finds anything. Cross prepares to confront Senator Goldman. He jumps into her vehicle and locks the door. Goldman tells her security guard, Morris, that they’re fine. Alex tells her about Mike’s murder. He suspects she saw something terrible at Ramsey’s party. Cross threatens to expose her if she doesn’t tell the truth. Caitlin makes sure they’re alone before asking if Cross thinks he can save Ramsey.
She also wants to be protected. Caitlin admits she sees Shannon running from him every night. She tells Cross everything she saw. Meanwhile, Ed asks Shannon to put in green contacts. He offers to let her say goodbye to her parents. Ed puts the green contacts in Shannon’s eyes. Then, he gets ready to take a picture of her. Shannon says she wants her phone call. Ed thinks Aileen might be the best work he’s ever done. He tries to give her coffee since that was Aileen’s last meal. Shannon drinks some before spitting it in Ed’s face. Ed takes her to the place where he intends to give her a lethal injection. He says it’s time to celebrate. Shawna De Lackner (Stacie Greenwell), Amielynn Vega (Mercedes de la Zerda), and Kayla Craig (Alona Tal) meet with John Sampson. Cross joins them and suggests Ramsey had a setback because Shannon cut her face at the party. Vega and De Lackner are asked to tail Ed Ramsey.
When they’re alone, Cross and Sampson talk about Anderson possibly being their mole. Sampson admits Anderson was home last night. Cross doesn’t think Anderson is their mole. He believes whoever is working with Ramsey leaked that video of him. There are only two people it could’ve been and Alex knows it wasn’t Sampson. Pendleton Whitney (Richard Waugh) tells Ed that he needs to speak to him because Bobby Trey came to see him. The Feds blocked his money. Ed wants Bobby to come to the house later and he’ll make sure he gets his money. Ed asks for help with Shannon. Meanwhile, Cross looks over the evidence. It appears he’s found something. Shannon tries to remain calm. Cross meets the others because he’s convinced Ramsey is going to kill Shannon today. He says the victims disappeared just before the birthdays of the killers that they were matched with. If Ed doesn’t kill Eileen today, he will have to wait four more years.
After all, it is Aileen’s birthday today. Kayla says Ed would need a plastic surgeon because Shannon cut her face. Sampson visits Massey to say he thinks he knows where Ed is hiding Shannon. He asks whether Massey calls him or texts. Massey begins talking about Ed having something over her. She admits that Ed helped her get pregnant. Massey insists she doesn’t have to go away for this. Sampson takes her back to the police station. She is handcuffed and arrested. Cross visits Dr. Marla Daine (Kristin Booth) to ask why she’s helping Ed torture Shannon Whitmer. She immediately confesses as well, but insists she did not want to help Ramsey. Marla says she did everything she could to help Shannon. Cross asks what Ed has on her. Marla complains about everything she could lose if it came out. Cross insists he can make it go away if she helps find Ed. Marla says she knows where he is. She gets close to Cross and injects him with something.
Marla admits Ed isn’t blackmailing her. Instead, he inspires her. If it was up to Marla, Cross would be dead right now. Ed wants him to witness his exhibition. Next, Ed begins injecting the sedative into Shannon who says she hates him. Ed uses the paralytic next. He finally uses the last injection. At the police station, Sampson hears Vega and Shawna say something about Dr. Daine. Shannon wakes back up. Ed tells her that the same thing worked with Aileen because the State of Florida botched the first attempt. He puts on a mask and promises they’ll get it right this time. Sampson finds Cross drugged in Daine’s office. Cross tells him that he stuck his phone in Daine’s purse. They use that to try to find Ed Rasmey. Meanwhile, Ed begins talking about a serial killer who woke him up. Daine sits down nearby as Ed begins injecting the drugs for real this time. Cross and the others arrive and enter the building.
They stop Ed just before he can inject the last drugs. He pushes the button and they shoot it. Daine uses pepper spray on them and flees. Pendleton and Daine are quickly arrested. Sampson yells that Shannon is alive. Cross goes after Ed who manages to escape in a vehicle. He believes he knows where Ed would’ve gone. They go to the mansion and begin looking for Ed. When Cross finds him, Ed says Cross really sees him. Ed has a needle in his hand. He injects himself before collapsing. Kayla and Sampson arrive seconds later. Ed’s body is taken away in an ambulance. Bobby Trey (Johnny Ray Gill) sees this from his vehicle. Later, Cross, Kayla, and Sampson hang out at Ben’s Chili Bowl. Tana Lee (Carla Vega) gives them free food for saving the girl. Cross asks if they have a guard on Shannon because Ed may have other friends. Sampson suggests he’ll have to work on himself now that he can’t focus on the case. He leaves. Kayla gives Cross information about Peter Lenox.
Nana thanks Elle Monteiro (Samantha Walkes) for watching the kids while she sees the All Blacks. Elle questions why Miss Nancy (Karen Robinson) couldn’t give the kids a ride. Nana asks Elle not to judge her grandson on his worst day. Cross goes to Peter’s last known address. While looking through the house, he finds pictures and other stuff about himself and his family. Alex also remembers seeing Peter Lenox (Ryan Allen) elsewhere. He finds a letter from Deirdre to Peter. In a flashback, Peter asks Deirdre Nolan (Jessica Clement) who did that to her. She admits it was Brenda Leeland, but she runs the guards in there so he can’t do anything. Peter insists he’ll get to her somehow. She tells him to go live his life because her life is already over. Later, Peter calls Deirdre and promises to get her out and make Cross pay. Elle and Janelle (Melody Hurd) wait for Damon to play. He comes out and begins playing. Alex calls Kayla to say something is missing.
Kayla believes Peter did something. Alex says he’s looking at the products of an unbelievable obsession. He suspects a guy like Peter is never going to give up. Peter watches Damon play the piano. Becky Whitmer (Anna Hamilton) speaks to Officer Farley (Ash Catherwood) who is guarding her daughter. Ed wakes up at the morgue and strangles the worker there. He checks the call and confirms it’s still his day. He uses the computer system to find out where Shannon is. Then, he dresses like a doctor and walks through the hospital to reach her. Ed stops and speaks to Farley briefly before killing him. He goes into the room with Becky and Shannon. Ed tells Becky he believes he has a way to speed her recovery. He’s left alone with Shannon. Before Ed can inject the drugs, Cross magically shows up and puts a gun to his head. Nana returns home and is attacked by Peter.
Cross Review
Cross has severely deteriorated from episode to episode with the seventh easily being the worst so far. The problem here is the script. Although the performances aren’t great, the lighting is bad, and the scenery isn’t authentic, the writing really ruins any hope this show had.
Modern writers don’t seem to care about creating believable works at this point because that much is clear here and with recent shows like The Day of the Jackal. Only the lowest IQ members of the public will not sit through these shows and pick out the many issues. In episode seven of Cross, there were multiple idiotic things that made the whole thing humorous.
For starters, Cross was caught off-guard when he was injected by Dr. Daine. Nevertheless, he just managed to sneak his phone into her purse. The CRP performed on Ed didn’t look authentic and it’s highly unlikely he wouldn’t just drop immediately. It’s unbelievably dumb that he managed to go all the way to the morgue, kill two people, and nearly kill Shannon. And, how the heck did Cross show up magically at the perfect time?
The last time we saw him, he was in Peter Lenox’s house. The script is just too dumb making it difficult to take anything about this show seriously. On a funny note, the restaurant had a picture of former President Obama on the wall. I guess that’s one way to turn a Canadian restaurant into a DC restaurant. Sadly, there’s no authenticity in Cross and the believability level is dropping like a boulder in an ocean.
