Bubbly Sophie – As the fourth episode of Colin from Accounts begins, Ashley (Harriet Dyer) works on Mrs. Scheller (Riley Jo Downing) who has a small tear. Ashley tells her it’ll take seven to ten days to heal although she may still be a little sore after that. Mr. Scheller (Gareth Davies) jokes she can throw another stitch in there to make it like new. Gordon (Patrick Brammall) texts to make sure they’re going to meet at the vet later while Ashley continues working. Later, Ashley tells Megan (Emma Harvie) that she is never talking to him again because it is so embarrassing. She remembers it would’ve been her two-year anniversary with James even though they broke up. Ashley can’t understand why old man Gordon went off of her the other night so Megan suggests he couldn’t get it up.
Ashley begins worrying that she is disgusting. Megan reveals she has the house to herself so Ashley and Colin can stay. Even though Megan has been slow to offer her a place, Ashley agrees to stay because she is tired. While Gordon tries to call Ashley, Brett (Michael Logo) talks to Colin (Zak). Chiara (Genevieve Hegney) asks Brett to break up the screen zombies since Fiona (Sacha Horler) is going to be there at four. She tells Gordon that she is only bringing her here because it would be helpful to get their brand onto a major airline. Chiara threatens to sell her share of the business again, but Gordon thinks it is too early for that old threat. Chiara tells Brett not to talk to Fiona since she might be high up in the company. Gordon remembers that he has a vet appointment at four causing Chiara to get mad at him.
She thinks he is just trying to get laid. Ashley begins working on another patient, Mrs. Thurston (Megan O’Connell). The couple’s daughter Rose keeps banging her doll against the table. With everything going on, Ashley ends up pricking her finger so they’ll have to get blood tests. She gets into an argument with Jordan (Anthony Taufa) who threatens to call his lawyer. When Ashley starts crying, Mrs. Thurston tries to comfort her. Gordon talks to the vet Yvette (Annie Maynard) about her brother who they managed to find. She admits Colin is doing a lot better than she expected. Gordon asks about him being able to walk since his legs move a little, but Yvette doesn’t think she’ll ever be able to walk. Yvette wonders if he is actually committed to looking after the dog or if he is trying to get his next root.
She reminds him that the dog could live for another 12 years. Ashley continues ignoring his calls and texts as James (Tai Hara) prepares to take her blood. He tells her everything is going to be okay once she starts crying. Fiona joins Chiara at the brewery for a drink. Chiara tries to impress her, but Fiona is too busy talking about their old friends. Chiara texts Gordon asking where the heck he is. Ashley finally gets back to Gordon and tells him that she couldn’t leave today. Gene (Glenn Hazeldine) bangs on the glass telling Ashley to get off the phone. Gordon quickly tells her that he had a good time last night and he’d love to try it again properly this time. Gene scolds her and tells her that her performance has slipped from last year. He tells her he doesn’t want another Bubbly Sophie who injected an elderly man with an air bubble because she was tired.
Gordon leaves Colin outside with something to eat while he goes inside to eat. He gets a call from Dr. Bruce (Tony Llewellyn-Jones) who lets him know his test came back clean. Chiara leaves Gordon a message cursing him and telling him not to bother coming back in again. A drunk Fiona starts flirting with Brett until Chiara sends him away to do something else. Chiara tells Fiona that she doesn’t feel like she is taking this seriously and they’re really trying to get her business. Fiona admits she doesn’t know anything about beers, but Ross does everything she says. She tells Chiara to tell her which one to buy and he’ll do it. Before Fiona will sign the paperwork, she reminds Chiara that she really thought she wanted to hang out. Fiona reveals she doesn’t have any friends left because she had a really bad divorce.
Chiara agrees to go party with her when she pitches that idea. When Gordon makes it back home with Colin that night, he learns that Ashley is going to stay at Megan’s house. He shows her the bottle of alcohol he bought so she suspects he is celebrating although he won’t say why. Gordon hopes she isn’t leaving because of the other night. She denies it and claims she is just busy right now. Gordon questions how she is going to look after Colin. He agrees to continue helping even though Colin is a bit of a burden. Once she tries to leave, Gordon does his best to get her to stay. The Uber arrives so Ashley leaves and Gordon ends up alone. Megan returns home and finds Ashley passed out with the dog. She deletes the message Ashley was writing to Gordon who waits anxiously to see what she was going to say. He gets drunk, eats pizza, and loses money by gambling online. Yvette taxes to see if he is still up.
Colin From Accounts Review
After Gordon and Ashley nearly hooked up in the last episode, Ashley second-guessed their relationship in this episode. Gordon received good news from Dr. Bruce who said he is cancer free. Chiara tried to find new revenue for the business by using her old friend Fiona. As for Colin, it is believed that he will never walk again and will always have to use wheels.
Not everything in Colin from Accounts is believable, but the characters are still likable nevertheless so it is easy to want the best for Gordon and Ashley while also rooting for their relationship. The side characters, such as Brett, Chiara, and others, are equally quirky so they keep the story moving without too many lulls in humor.
The episode did a good job of setting things up as there are likely more serious topics right around the corner. While the episodes are good, I suspect Colin from Accounts will be even more effective as a short binge making it a good choice for weekend holiday viewing. The episode scores a 7.5 out of 10.
