Let It Go – As the episode opens, Shelly Mohan/Maggie Gallagher (Charlene McKenna) places her hand in a solution. She grimaces in pain before revealing her raw fingertips. A news report about the Glencara murder case can be heard in the background.
Fiona Uba (Jeanne Nicole Ni Ainle) arrives at work to see DS Jason Mohan (Barry Ward) sleeping in his office. After a sarcastic comment about sleeping at the office being “key to a successful marriage,” she says Europol flagged Alexander Mislov from Latvia for international sex and weapon trafficking, drug smuggling, and extortion. He adds his operations are located in Ireland. He asks if there is a recent photo of Mislov, After telling him that the photo on file is from 20 years ago, she questions if he had surgery on his face. Mislov was reported missing in 2003 from Latvia.
DCI Crichett (Cathy Belton) tells Detective Ames (Robert Mitchell) that Charlie Lynch/Phil Whelan (Adam Fergus) sent his daughter, Laurie Whelan (Kiera Crawford) an image of Maggie’s home. He suggests geolocation technology could pinpoint the location of her home.
Jason calls Shelly to remind her to come into the police station for fingerprinting and DNA. She promises to stop by after dropping Niall Mohan (Aidan McCann), Derek Mohan (Rhys Mannion), and Caitlin Mohan (Katelyn Rose Downey) off at school. Niall has a coughing fit as realizing his taxonomy homework. Offering to help, Caitlin asks Shelly what happened to her fingers. Shelly claims to have burnt them. Caitlin questions why Katie Ryan (Aoibheann McCann) sells cupcakes at school if they are so fattening. Shelly sarcastically says Katie says a lot more than prayers. She catches up with Derek to ask if they can start all over. She admits to checking in on him because she cares. Doireann Carrick (Grace Collender) still isn’t speaking to Derek.
As Shelly backs out of the drive, Caitlin questions where the man with a beard went. Shelly asks who she is referring to. Caitlin claims the man was there last week. Shelly has a flashback while backing the vehicle out of the drive. An oncoming vehicle has to swerve to miss her car.
Billy Ryan (Benjamin Bergin) describes Nial’s shirt as “stupid.” Niall’s sarcastic comment earns laughs from the other students. Taking his inhaler, Billy mimics Billy’s coughs. Emma Wilson (Nathara Dayananda) demands he return the inhaler to Niall. He suggests “Elsa” mind her own business. She calls him a “bully.” The bus driver, Mr. Sweeney (Joe Rooney) threatens to pull over before he hands the inhaler to Emma. Niall gives her a smile when she returns his inhaler.
Caitlin hesitates to get out of the vehicle because Logan (Orla Casey) is waiting on her. In front of the school, two boys are teasing Logan about her being his girlfriend. She admits to not knowing if she wants to go with him to the dance. Shelly suggests being honest with him. Jason informs Shelly that Garda Pat O’Connor (Sean Duggan) will fingerprint her. Glencara Hotel housekeeper, Eileen (Orla Casey) is with Fiona when they approach.
Doireann demands Derek stop calling her. He curses and throws his phone into the side of a building.
Shelly tells Pat that she burned her fingers. While he collects her fingerprints, she has a flashback of unfastening a man’s belt before he ends up dead. She recalls her touching the belt buckle. Pat says there will be a cheek swab before she leaves. Eileen works with a forensic sketch artist, Owen (Alan Bradley) to create an image of the woman from the Glencara Hotel. Jason promises to do whatever is necessary to keep Zelma Permeti (Aibhe Cowley) and her children from being deported. While swabbing Shelly’s cheek, Pat stresses the importance of keeping her DNA separate from the murder victim. Shelly rushes to put on her gloves as Jason approaches the vehicle. When he asks why she is wearing gloves, she claims to have burnt her fingers. He informs her that Eileen could only identify the woman’s sunglasses and cap. He suggests wearing only her gloves when their intimate later.
Pam Wilson (Caomhe O’Malley) tells Shelly that Matt Wilson (Trevor Kaneswaran) had a meeting but he left the cupcake supplies. She claims Matt always manages to find a partner everywhere they live. Shelly assures her that she has it wrong. Pam admits to getting lonely while traveling before saying it works for her and Matt. She accuses Matt of lying a lot. Shelly denies being interested in Matt.
Derek waits until Brian Carrick (Killian Donnelly) drives away before rushing up to Doireann’s. Frantically ringing the doorbell and banging on the door, he pleads with her to open the door. He professes to hate her.
Fiona tells Jason that Eileen’s sketch looks like Shelly’s mouth. She questions Shelly’s whereabouts when Charlie was killed. He suggest she was at the house. She describes Shelly as a “clean freak.” He reminds her that she knows nothing about Shelly. She tells him that he doesn’t know his wife. He says they have been married for 12 years.
A woman explains the age progression technology. She warns Maggie may have had facial surgery. She tells her that it has an 80% accuracy rating. Crichett goes for coffee while she works on Maggie’s progression photo.
Shelly drops the cupcakes off for the bake sale. Katie Ryan (Aoibheann McCann) orders no one give away any cupcakes. She greets Kayla before the students arrive to purchase cupcakes. Ethan picks up one for him and Emma. Katie suggests his shirt is inappropriate. Shelly says her meddling is inappropriate.
Derek secretively watches Doireann’s house.
Fiona informs Jason that Detective Baxter (Youssef Quinn) didn’t see an Irish woman wearing sunglasses and a cap in the Glencara Hotel lobby. He assures her a Latvian assassin would avoid the CCTV. She reminds him of the prostitute. He says she was a “decoy” that took the fall. He tells her that Charlie owed money or was trying to establish his own sex or drug ring.
While Niall teaches Emma a song, Shelly encounters a concerned Aelish Flaherty (Roisin Rankin). Holding out the facial composite, Aelish says it is her. Shelly claims to be having an affair. Aelish asks if she was having an affair with Charlie. Shelly tells her that it was another man at the Glencara Hotel. Aelish calls herself an “eejit” for believing Shelly murdered Charlie. Shelly says the double life is killing her. Aelish assures her that many people keep secrets. Shelly questions what Niall would do if wasn’t there for him. Aelish admits to calling the police to say she can identify the woman in the composite sketch. Shelly asks if she mentioned her name. Aelish tells her that she provided her name and address. Shelly suggests not giving the police her name.
Crichett tells Detective Inspector Commissioner Garrett (Steve Gunn) about geolocation technology tracking Charlie who was utilizing the alias, Phil, to potentially Maggie’s house. If the geolocation capability was enabled, they could have pinpointed the location. She says they need a warrant. Garrett tells her it is a national security matter before asking if there is evidence Maggie is planning an impending attack in the United Kingdom. She admits there is no evidence. He suggests the Irish take care of it before dismissing them.
Shelly asks Derek what is going on with Doireann. He only asks about Jason before heading to his room. Before leaving, Fiona reminds Jason that he knows her address. He watches as she speeds out of the car park.
Crichett asks Ames to pull up Jason’s contact information. After a bit of chit-chat, she leaves Jason a detailed voicemail about Charlie and Maggie. Jason and Shelly have sex. While going for water, she has a flashback of calling Freddie Vee (Tristan Heanue). He demands to know how she got his phone number. She promises to tell him over wine. Back to the present, she checks on the kids. Derek opens up about Doireann refusing to talk to him. Embracing him, she assures him that everything will be all right. The episode ends.
Clean Sweep Review
Shelly tries to alter her fingerprints before meeting with Pat at the police station. She contributes her tender fingers to a baking burn. Glencara Hotel housekeeper, Eileen works with a forensics sketch artist to create a sketch composite of the woman visiting Phil the day he was murdered. Shelly remembers touching Freddie Vee’s belt buckle before he ends up murdered.
Crichett and Ames work with an agent to track Phil’s activities utilizing a phone he gave Laurie. A photo of Shelly’s house is extracted from the phone. The geolocation capability being disabled prohibited them from getting the exact location of the house. They create a progression photo of Shelly. Commissioner Garrett denies their warrant request because there is no evidence she is planning an attack in the UK.
Aelish, from the physio clinic, identifies Shelly as the woman in the sketch composite. She notifies the police but doesn’t identify her. Shelly suggests telling the truth but leaving her name out of it. She claims to have been having an affair with a man at the hotel.
Derek struggles to deal with Doireann’s refusal to see him. Shelly tries to comfort him.
