At the beginning of the episode, Leah (Katherine Kelly) freaks out at Rose’s review. She comes with an excuse so she can leave in a hurry. Leah goes to her parents’ house where she finds Angela (Lorraine Ashbourne) and Michael (Peter Firth) preparing for their upcoming anniversary party. Adam (Tom Goodman-Hill) receives a phone call while out for a run. During the call, he receives good news about the grant. Leah tells her parents about Adam’s behavior before receiving a phone call from him. She doesn’t answer.
Adam runs into Rose (Molly Windsor) while searching the university for Leah. He learns that Leah got upset and left the review. They agree to delete the nude pictures from their cellphones. Michael encourages his daughter to take a break from work but she cannot since she has her appraisal coming up tomorrow. Adam shows up at their house and Leah’s parents get angry with him. Nevertheless, he storms inside and finds Leah upstairs. She is holding a pregnancy test which confirms she is pregnant with their child. Michael goes to the university while William (Adrian Edmondson) does the same.
Williams runs into Ben (Burn Gorman) and tells him that he wants to speak with his daughter. Michael gets to Rose first and he tries to convince her to leave Leah alone. Rose isn’t willing to do that unless Michael tells his family the truth. After that, William takes Rose to see her aunt at the hospital. Adam gets in touch with Leah and encourages her to work things out with him. He tries to convince her that it was a simple mistake and that they’ll be able to fix things. Rose isn’t interested in being at the hospital with her aunt so she plays on her phone and steps outside. William tells her that her mother was a coward before she leaves.
Leah decides to spend the night with Amy (Lara Rossi). Adam thinks about texting her that night. The following day, Leah speaks with Stephan (Parker Sawyers) about his 11 year marriage to Charlotte. Stephan pretends that his marriage is just fine. Leah asks when they’ll hear about the permanent position. She learns that the school is going to delay talks about her position due to the recent events with Rose. Michael receives a call from Rose who tells him he is a coward for not telling his family. Adam meets with Leah once again. He tells her that they got the Hurst Foundation grant but he turned it down so they can work on their relationship.
He tries to give her a book he loved as a child but she won’t take it. After that, Leah speaks with her mother about her relationship with Michael. She admits it is a constant struggle to keep things working. That night, Adam receives a message from Rose asking him to come to St. Helen’s College. Adam goes to the college and finds Rose on the roof. He reluctantly sits on the rooftop with her. She scares him a bit before saying they can go back to her room and have sex until morning. He accepts that offer and they rush back to Rose’s room. After they’ve finished, Leah gets a message supposedly from Adam asking her to come home so they can talk.
Rose puts a picture in Adam’s pocket before sneaking out of her room. Adam gets dressed and finds the picture. He also notices that his phone has gone missing. He rushes home but Leah gets there first and begins looking around. Rose leads Leah through the house. Then, Leah finds Adam’s phone outside by the door. Adam arrives moments later. He tells Leah to go back to the party and he’ll meet her there soon enough. Before Leah leaves, she is shown the picture Rose put in Adam’s pocket. Michael gives a speech before Leah enters and asks to speak with him in private. At the same time, Adam finds Rose and she begins telling him the truth.
Michael finally does the same. We learn that Michael had an affair with his assistant Sarah many years ago. That led to the birth of Rose who happens to be Michael’s daughter. Rose signed up for his classes and tried to have a relationship with her father but Michael refused. Leah begins heading home while Adam asks Rose what she is going to do next. Adam gets angry and calls Rose a leech. Rose isn’t going to hide their sexual encounter from Leah. Adam grabs her by the throat. Then, we jump forward and Ben receives a call from Rose.
She tells him that something bad has happened and she needs help. After that, we see Leah speaking with the investigators. She tells them that she arrived at the house and checked to see if Adam was breathing. She claims she held him until the police arrived. The investigator wants to know why she returned to the party and left 40 minutes later. She says she had an argument with her dad. Leah asks them why they haven’t arrested Rose yet as the episode becomes to an end.
Cheat Review
I feel that Cheat has been pretty good. However, this episode turned things upside down a bit. It has become a bit too predictable and cliché. We’ve seen this numerous times in other shows and movies. I am also confused as to why Leah’s sexual relationship with Stephan has never come to light. I thought that is what started everything? Finally, I would like to mention the casting decisions.
I’ve seen elsewhere that some people have criticized Molly Windsor’s acting. While I think her acting has been decent, I am not sure she is a good fit for the role. She hasn’t done bad or anything like that but I think someone else might’ve fit the role better. Either way, I’ve enjoyed the show and can’t wait to watch the last episode. This one scores a 7 out of 10. Be sure to catch up with previous recaps of Cheat before you go!
