Britannia Series 1 Episode 2 Recap

cait britannia episode 2

As the second episode begins, Veran (Mackenzie Crook) discovers the note in Antonius’s mouth. The contents of the note are never revealed. He explains that there is one more thing to do. After the intro, Phelan (Julian Rhind-Tutt) wakes up Lindon (Stanley Weber) and his wife. He lets them know that the Romans have arrived. Phelan encourages King Pellenor (Ian McDiarmid) to negotiate with the Romans and avoid war. Pellenor doesn’t listen. It is clear that he wants an all out war. It is clear that Kerra (Kelly Reilly) isn’t happy with the decision. Seconds later, Cait (Eleanor Worthington-Cox) awakes and spots several Roman soldiers. She tells Divis (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) right away.

Divis makes it clear that he didn’t protect her. He also gives her dog berries. Meanwhile, several women try to make contact with the Roman prisoners. The Romans force them to keep quiet. Cait’s father asks about her and Islene (Callie Cooke). He doesn’t get an answer. Aulus (David Morrissey) decides to go for a bath. He is protected by several guards. Veran performs a ritual of sorts. He uses Antonius (Aaron Pierre) to send another message to Aulus. Cait asks Divis about being cast out by the Druids. He explains that he was possessed by the demon Pwykka. He also insists that the druids are afraid of that particular demon. He tries to encourage Cait to head to the cave on her own. He eventually gets under her skin, so she decides to go after the Romans on her own.

Vitus (Gershwyn Eustache Jnr) returns to Aulus with a message from Pellenor. Aulus requests to speak with one of the children prisoners. Meanwhile, some of the soldiers draw straws and plan to make their move. Aulus speaks with Innis (Joseph Harmon). The boy tells him about his mother and father. Then, he tells him all about the druids. The Romans decide to crucify the prisoners. During this time, Cait strolls through the woods on her own. She makes a spear out of wood. She is chased by wolves, before falling into a hole. Kerra speaks with Phelan about Pellenor’s decision. Kerra heads to the Roman camp. She speaks with Aulus and convinces him to stop the executions for the time being. Lindon watches as she leaves the camp. He helps her fight off a few Regni scouts. Then, she shows him an alternate path back to camp.

Lindon insists his loyalty is with the king, so he must report what he saw. When she returns home, she watches Lindon keep her visit a secret. Then, she is attacked by Phelan. He ridicules her for her actions. She tells him about her visit to the Roman camp. Queen Antedia (Zoe Wanamaker) visits the Romans. She agrees to help them, as long as they let her have Kerra. She reveals that she disfigured her son and she wants revenge. Aulus finds Antonius’s head and a note in his tent. The Romans march onward. Meanwhile, Cait wakes up. She finds a stick protruding through her leg. She pulls it out and continues her journey. Meanwhile, the Romans try to revolt against the general. However, they’re soon attacked by Pellenor’s men. Vitus and another soldier are taken captive. Aulus continues on his own. He visits Veran.

Aulus heads to the underworld. He know believes he knows Caesar’s mistake. He insists they need to fight gods and not warriors.

Britannia Review

The second episode of Britannia was definitely better than the opener, but the show still falters in so many categories. The dialogue isn’t great. There is simply too much vulgar language for no good purpose. During the first two episodes, I’ve heard shat and piss more than the characters’ names. At this point, I know a few names, but not all. That needs to change. It just dumbs down the show.

That is another problem in and of itself. The show isn’t great in terms of realism. It doesn’t even take its self serious. This episode was okay, but nothing to write home about. It scores a 6 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Britannia right now!
