Brave New World Episode 6 Recap

john and lenina brave new world

As the episode begins, Bernard Marx (Harry Lloyd) speaks to Helm Watson (Hannah John-Kamen) about Marco (Charlie Hamblett) and his movie trailer for the punch. Helm pretends to like Marco until he leaves. Then, she ridicules him to Bernard. He tells Helm that John isn’t used to this level of attention before leaving to check on him. Meanwhile, locals stand around John (Alden Ehrenreich) and ask him to tell them about the Savage Lands. When Bernard arrives, John pulls him aside and admits he doesn’t know what to say because they want him to be a killer. He also says they believe he threw the punch but Bernard pretends he isn’t sure who threw it. Bernard encourages John to help them and that he can be whoever he wants to be. John begins telling them an outlandish story moments later.

He tells this story over and over again. He goes on to have intercourse with many people. He only stops when he stops Lenina Crowne (Jessica Brown Findlay) in the distance and tries to track her down. After the intro, John hangs out with Bernard who offers to take him anywhere. John is tired and doesn’t want to do anything though. Bernard reveals that Henry (Sen Mitsuji) has invited them to attend an event but John doesn’t understand that because Bernard hates Henry. They get on a subway train of shorts and John lets Bernard know that he doesn’t want to do it. He is sick of telling the story but admits the parties were fun. Bernard tells him that these trends usually don’t last long and he is surprised that John’s has lasted this long.

John asks about Lenina and this seems to upset Bernard who quickly takes a soma. Next, we join Mustafa Mond (Nina Sosanya) as she goes outside and joins CJack60 (Joseph Morgan) who has been on vacation. He tells her that the others are off somewhere being insufferable. He goes on to say that it takes many hands to build a city before asking what is wrong. He knows Mond only comes down there when Indra misbehaves. She tells him there is a new virus and it is a man. John runs into Lenina after getting off of the train. Lenina says that collisions don’t happen in New London. They walk together and chat about Lenina leaving the party. She says he has found a lot of places but she denies watching him. Lenina says John is doing what he is supposed to do like everyone else. John gets Lenina to confess that she left the party because it made her sad and she needs to get back to herself.

She thought she could see John and remember who she was supposed to be but that didn’t happen. He grabs her hand and asks her if she feels the vibration. She claims it is the train before they continue walking. He explains that Indra doesn’t see him because he doesn’t have an optic. With a little encouragement from John, Lenina removes her optic and gets on the train before John follows. They ride along and John is impressed with the landscape outside. John shows Lenina how to help herself by pinching a nerve in her hand and explaining he used to do it for his mother. She offers him a soma but he doesn’t want it for this. Bernard watches a commercial for soma red before speaking with Gary (Matthew Aubrey) about John’s whereabouts. He learns that John has been staying out late and coming home smelling popular in the morning.

Bernard contacts Helm and tries to find John since he needs him for Henry’s event. John tells Lenina how he sympathizes with the lower class because he used to clean other people’s stuff too. Lenina realizes she has never looked at the landscape and missed done things she should’ve done. Bernard attends Henry’s event. When the speech ends, Bernard apologizes to Henry for John not being there and claims he is having morning sickness. Once again, Henry belittles Bernard. He thinks it is time for Bernard to return to his office and switch to work more worthy of him. Bernard stands up moments later and gives a speech about his time in the Savage Lands. Mustafa Mond talks to CJack60 about the problem being people. He says Indra built a world for them and never stopped. She simulates, tests, improves, and resets before beginning again.

He says Jane gave herself a new name and was supposed to be down there with him. She tells Elliot that she cannot read her anymore and that she is dying. He says that they’re not her children and the scientists do not name their rats. He warns her that dying out there means she will die forever. She makes him disappear before traveling to a room where Elliot and the others are sleeping. There is an empty space for her there. Meanwhile, John tells Lenina that she doesn’t know how good she has it there in New London. He tells her that she has everything she wants since there is no Indra or people watching her there. She doesn’t cooperate so John tells her what he wants first. She says they should go back but John suggests starting a farm so they can survive. Then, he offers to fish since it’ll be quicker.

He encourages her to picture it while a depressed Bernard hangs out with Helm. He says he is an Alpha Plus but Helm reminds him that he has never believed that. She tells him that he is not the new thing and that is why they’re not interested in his story. During their conversation, Helm realizes people want to be giants while Bernard says they want to be savages. She believes only Bernard wants to be a savage. She tells him that his moment in the glow is gone and he shouldn’t chase it. John and Lenina continue pretending they’re living off the land. They make out before having sex. When that ends, John returns home and tells Gary to make him a pie before Bernard confronts him. John apologizes for missing his party and offers to take him to the Pleasure Gardens to make up for it. However, Bernard says it is over and John is no longer trendy.

Bernard and John get into an argument with Bernard calling John sad. He insults John and his mother before trying to punch him and a scuffle ensues. Helm and the others watch the fight from Gary’s feed. John coaches Bernard and tells him that everyone is watching. The fight continues until they fall down the stairs and Gary stops transmitting. He falls to the ground and cries so Bernard gives him soma. John denies being with Lenina as they pant for air on the ground. Mustafa struggles through the tunnels until she falls to the ground and is told that Elliot cannot help her. The friend she played a board game with who might be Jane arrives and tells she is perfect. At the end of the episode, it appears that Mond is going to be drowned.

Brave New World Review

I’ll say it again. I am not sure I understand the bigger story behind Brave New World since I am not entirely sure what is going on with Elliot, Jane, and all that stuff but I am intrigued by John and the others. I know the show is a bit outlandish but I hope it doesn’t get too bad as we get closer to the finale. I haven’t read the book so I may be a little more open-minded to the dramatic changes though. Either way, I think all episodes of Brave New World have been interesting and entertaining.

I’ll miss it since I’ll have to find something else decent to watch and that has been very difficult here lately. This episode scores a 7 out of 10. Previous recaps of Brave New World can be found on Reel Mockery.
