Alfred leads Henry to Longharvest Lane where they delve into the crime scene of a nude male. Two men whistle at a man wearing a dress. Henry sarcastically asks if he is going to arrest them as well. Ignoring him, Alfred discovers a medical cane imprint on the ground. He says the suspect’s left-sided limp means the cane is right-handed and the hexagonal shape is a sign of value.
Dalrymple & Sons Canes & Umbrellas – Alfred and Henry meet with Dalrymple (David Birrel) under aliases, Archie and Eustace Cartwright. After Henry greets him with the Mason handshake, Dalrymple gives them the address of a client who acquired a custom hexagonal, swan neck cane. The crash team rushes in to administer adrenaline and do CPR. Defoe watches as the man is declared dead.
1941 – Chief Inspector Calloway (Derek Riddle) asks Esther Jankovsky (Chloe Raphael) why she brought a flyer seeking information for the murder of the man discovered at Longharvest Lane. Esther tells Charles Whiteman (Jacob Fortune-Lloyd) that she will talk to him alone. Kathleen (Emily Barber) stands up but Calloway orders Whiteman to question the girl. In Yiddish, Esther threatens to tell Calloway about him putting the body in the boot at Longharvest Lane if he refuses to give her 10 pounds. Whiteman threatens to break her neck. She says, “Ice cream.” Calloway says she knows English. Whiteman agrees to pay her the money. Calloway demands to know what Esther is telling him. Whiteman claims she doesn’t have any information on Farrell (Jonny Coyne).
Whiteman pays Esther 2 pounds. She threatens to tell Calloway everything when the payphone rings. He rushes to answer it to hear a woman ask if the murder investigation is closed. He assures her that Esther is no threat. The woman orders him to get rid of Esther. He reminds her that she is only 11. He vows to pay Esther when he returns from Essex.
1890 – Henry gives Alfred a newspaper clipping about Julian Harker who resurfaced after he reportedly died on the battlefield in Burma. He says Agatha’s staff claimed when Julian returned he did not look like Agatha’s son but she had his old photos updated to look like him. Alfred questions why Julian wasn’t found out. Henry tells him that Julian is a big-time investor with powerful connections. He attributes Julian’s accurate stock predictions to his acquisition of a private bank. Henry suggests a tie but Alfred refuses to let him tie it.
2023 – Attorney Philip Dust (Kurt Egylawan) tells Shahara and Barber that Elias will confess to the Longharvest Lane murder and bombing. Shahara confronts Elias about his previous claim of innocence. Elias claims to want answers before saying he lied. She asks if he can tell her the victim’s name and what role Syed Tahir (Channell Kular) played in the murder. Outside the interrogation room, she questions why Elias cannot answer her questions. Barber says once his fingerprints are confirmed on the bomb fragments, the investigation can be closed.

Alfred tells Julian about the murder at Longharvest Lane on September 10, at 6am. Julian admits to reading Henry’s piece in the newspaper. When Julian leaves, Alfred puts the sherry decanter cap in his pocket. During the séance, Agatha grasps Alfred’s hand but he pulls away. He asks her to call the spirit of the man shot on Longharvest Lane. He places photos of the nude man and a photo of Julian’s reflection in a window on the table. Agatha claims to see the man standing in the room. Alfred asks the spirit to identify himself. An Ouija is utilized to spell out Defoe.
Kneale asks the spirit if Defoe can identify his killer. In 2053, Defoe says, “No.” In 1890, the Ouija spells out yes. Alfred asks if Julian is his killer. The Ouija spells out no. In 2053, Defoe denies any connection to the Chapel Perilous, a terrorist group. Iris asks him to explain how his DNA matches his doppelganger’s. In 1890, the Ouija spells out Ma when Alfred orders the charade to end. He tells Agatha that Julian was hiding in the alcove near the body. He tries to leave but collapses to the floor.
