Sickness – As the episode opens, John Riley (Shaun Benson) informs Major Murphy (Vincent Walsh) of John Tunstall (Linus Roache) being in a Las Vegas hospital with smallpox. Riley suggests visiting Tunstall to remind him of the “facts of life”. In Las Vegas, New Mexico, Tunstall is being transported on a gurney into the hospital. A nurse (Samara Von Rad) says he probably has smallpox.
John H. Tunstall’s Mercantile – Deputy Sheriff Dick Brewer (Reilly Dolman) rushes over to assist Sheriff Brady (Bill Macdonald) who orders Tunstall’s illegal bank closed. Brady hands Brewer a court document before informing him that DA Thomas Catron (David Cubitt) set the proceedings in motion. After reminding him of Catron owning Catron Bank & Trust, Brewer suggests Brady is working with the House. Brady claims to have a spotless record as the Sheriff.
William H. Bonney/ Billy The Kid (Tom Blyth) stresses the importance of Tom O Folliard (Pepe Johnson) practicing target shooting daily. Tom says it will take time. Billy orders him to practice or leave. Refusing to leave, Tom asks if the left hand can be utilized to target practice. Billy utilizes his right and left hand to shoot the cans. Tom assures him that he will never be able to replicate Billy’s shooting. Charlie Bowdre (Horatio James) tells him that he won’t either.
Jesse Evans (Daniel Webber) leads a raid on Tunstall’s livestock at the Brewer farm. Brewer arrives home to find the raid in full force. Jesse fires several shots at Brewer who fires back before the men flee.
Billy confronts Dulcinea Del Tobosco (Nuria Vega) about her being in town with a man. She confesses to loving the man who is her brother. He says rumors claim she is engaged to be married. She says Antonio Del Tobosco (Manuel Uriza) chose her husband, the eldest son of a wealthy Spanish family when she was a child. Isabella Del Tobosco (Ana-Maria Alvarado) watches from a short distance away. Dulcinea and Billy kiss.
Brewer informs Brady of the raid on Tunstall’s livestock. He claims to have seen Jesse among the thieves who stole several horses. He suggests the 7 Rivers Gang is responsible. Brady vows to investigate his claim. As Deputy Sheriff, Brewer demands a posse be organized to search for the stolen orders. Brady orders his deputy (Rob Hay) to implement an investigation.
Reading a letter from Billy, a nurse says Juan Patron (Javier Lacroix) located Tunstall’s horses in Pecos. Trying to get out of bed, Tunstall stresses the need for him to get back. She reminds him that he is very sick. In Pecos, Brewer, Billy, and Brady locate Tunstall’s stolen horses in a corral. When a member of the posse is hit, Brady rushes in shooting. A shootout ensues. Brewer suggests Buckshot Roberts (Mark Krysko) shot the man. Brady issues the 7 Rivers Gang a final warning. The shootout continues when Billy moves in closer to shoot through a window. Jesse, Buckshot Roberts, and other men surrender.
Las Vegas Hospital – Edgar Walz (Matthijs Van De Sande Bakhuyzen) identifies himself to Tunstall as Catron’s son-in-law. He accuses Tunstall of trying to bankrupt the Murphy Store in Lincoln County. Tunstall describes the House as a corrupt criminal organization. Walz offers him a lump sum for his stock and real estate if he and his men leave Lincoln County. Tunstall says the House will be exposed in court. Walz assures him that no court will challenge Catron before threatening to kill him if he declines their offer.
Dulcinea invites Billy to meet her father. Antonio asks Billy if he is no longer an outlaw. Billy tells him that he is working for Tunstall. Antonio says Tunstall and Murphy are at odds. When asked about his faith, Billy denies believing someone is looking out for him. Antonio asks what interest he has in Dulcinea. Billy confesses to love her and wants to marry her. Antonio assures him that his ancestors would never approve. Billy says it should be her choice.
Alexander McSween (Luke Camilleri) informs Tunstall of the 7 Rivers Gang arrest, including Jesse. He says their arrangement is a week away. Later, Tunstall suggests busting Jesse and the other five 7 Rivers Gang members from jail could encourage peace but Billy disagrees.
Antonio tells Dulcinea that Billy wants her to be his wife. He claims his and Isabella’s marriage was arranged. He admits to being devastated because he loved another woman. He tells her to marry who she wants to.
Billy delivers bottles of alcohol to Jesse and the 7 Rivers Gang at the jail. Tunstall says it is a peace offering. Billy tells Jesse that they are going to break them out. Brady arrives demanding the prisoners return to their cells. Tunstall pays Brady to forget the horse theft. Brady accepts the cash bribe and agrees to send most of the guards on break. Later, Tunstall selects five of his men for the breakout. Billy warns of a shootout between them and the guards. Tunstall claims to have made a deal with Brady. He assures them that the breakout is the beginning of a deal between himself and Murphy.
At the jail, Billy captures one of the guards. The guard tells them to utilize a rock to bust off the lock to ensure it doesn’t look like an inside job. George Coe (Brendan Fletcher) busts off the lock to release Jesse and his men.
At Brewer’s ranch, Billy tells Jesse that Tunstall ordered the breakout to encourage peace. He says Tunstall denies trying to run Murphy out of business. Jesse announces he is going to the toilet but steals Brewer’s gun and holds him at gunpoint. Jesse warns there will be no peace. Frank Baker (Ian Tracey) wants to shoot Billy but Jesse intervenes. Jesse and the gang leave.
Manuela Bowdre (Veronica Long) gives birth to a boy. Holding his son, Charlie says he wants to call him Billy.
Tunstall greets Sue McSween (Lisa Chandler) and Judge Wilson (David LeReaney). He says it will be war because the House refuses peace. They toast to victory over the House. He tells Billy about Walz’s visit and threat. He admits his plan was stupid and put them in danger. Billy stresses the need for Tunstall to trust him. He announces war starts tomorrow. The episode ends.
Billy The Kid Review
Tunstall is hospitalized with smallpox. Walz visits him in the hospital with a lucrative deal to acquire his stock, store, and bank. If he refuses the deal, Catron will have him killed. Fearing for his life, Tunstall convinces Billy to break Jesse and the 7 Rivers Gang out of jail. Brady accepts a bribe to put most of the jail guards off duty.
With the jail breakout a success, Billy leads the 7 Rivers Gang back to Brewer’s farm. Everyone is eating breakfast when Jesse steals Brewer’s gun. He shoots one of Tunstall’s men when he tries to intervene. Frank wants to kill Billy but Jesse stops him.
Tunstall tells Billy about Walz’s death threat. He now knows Murphy and the House refuse peace. Impending war is the only answer.
