He wonders if he should get another girl because he claims she has no class and can’t be sophisticated. He eventually gets upset and yells for her to get out. As Kimmie leaves, she tells herself that she can’t keep doing this. She speaks to Rain (Amber Reign Smith) about the man. Kimmie is told not to do anything to tick off Jules (Charles Malik Whitfield). She questions how much longer they’re going to let him do this to them. Rain argues they have to do what he says or they’ll go to jail. They talk about getting to see Mallory speak. Rain says they can’t be late because Delinda won’t be happy. Kimmie reveals that Beauty in Black is giving away scholarships and she applied for one. Rain wants to get back to the club so they can start on time.
Rain decides to go to work while Kimmie stays. She tries to convince Kimmie that the man is playing her and this is a waste of time before she leaves. Wanda Watson (Charline St. Charles) greets everyone at the Beauty in Black summit. She reveals that Mallory (Crystle Stewart) is giving away five scholarships to the Beauty in Black Hair School. She’s also giving away $1 million to a lucky salon. Mallory Bellarie takes the stage. She tells Wanda that she didn’t come from money and had very humble beginnings. Her foster mother allegedly treated her poorly. She tells everyone about her relationship and career. Mallory never wanted to be a figurehead. She eventually decided she wanted to get paid in equity. Kimmie arrives at the strip club. Delinda (Ursula O. Robinson) immediately complains about her being late. Kimmie is told to get in there and act like she wants it.
The others discuss talking to Jules about her. Body (Tamera Kissen) confronts Rain backstage to see if she has the money. She tells her to stop worrying. She even offers to get the woman to come to her for the procedure. Body warns Kimmie that she’s Jules’ bottom girl and she runs this. Kimmie is told that Jules makes women disappear. In private, Kimmie tells Rain they have to make rent tonight. It’s going to be hard when they take almost all of it. Kimmie urges Rain not to trust Body. She says she has to check online about the scholarship tonight. Body comes over to tell Rain she can do the procedure tonight. She refuses to let her say no. Body tells her to get excited. Ebony (Jasmine Sargeant), Kimmie, and Rain watch Body perform. Delinda tells Kimmie she has a VIP and she better not come out without some money. Kimmie dances for Horace (Ricco Ross). She believes he’s more interested in the Latin Flavor.
When she offers to get him in there, Horace tells her that her generation is messed up. He gets upset and throws money at her before leaving. Delinda and Body aren’t happy about her not making any money. Jules also called and said Kimmie needs to leave. Mallory celebrates with Diane Jackson of My Type Hair for winning $1 million for her salon. Jules picks up Kimmie outside the club. She is reminded that the man was a whale. Kimmie insists she couldn’t make him happy. Jules claims he picked her because she’s smarter than most of his girls. He says she’s failing him. Jules tells her to go up there and do whatever he wants. When Jules gets aggressive, Kimmie remembers her mom arguing with Frank. Body goes to the motel with Rain and tells her to get drunk. Kimmie calls Rain to say she had to come back. She says she can’t do this anymore. Rain tells her to do what she has to do.
She keeps urging her to do it. In a flashback, Kimmie’s mom tells her that she can’t live with her anymore. She’s too old to be around Frank. Kimmit meets the mystery man once again. He claims all women want to use him, take his money, and make him feel bad. He says he’s just looking for a girl who does what he says. He wants a girl who is down to do whatever he wants. He asks what is wrong with her. He knows that she got caught drug running at the airport. Kimmie is warned she could be right back in jail. She promises to be whatever he needs. It’s alleged that her relaxers cause women to get cancer. In the car, Mallory complains to Calvin (Shannon Wallace). She wants that woman murdered in the street.
Mallory questions who convinced her to give them hood rats money anyway. She suspects that the money will be gone in a month. Mallory forces Calvin and her assistant to get out of the car. Rain continues waiting for the woman to arrive. Daga (TS Madison) finally arrives with Chase. She gets upset that Body said would give Rain a discount. Kimmie returns to the motel and finds Rain passed out on the bed. She realizes what has happened.
Beauty In Black Review
In the opening episode of Beauty in Black, viewers were introduced to many characters including Kimmie, Mallory, and Rain. Kimmie is a stripper who wants to get out of the industry. She has attempted to get a scholarship from Beauty in Black which is owned by Mallory Bellarie. Simultaneously, she has been forced to sleep with Mallory’s husband, Roy, without realizing it.
Another stripper, Body, convinced Rain to get butt implants claiming it would help her make more money. However, the procedure may have killed her or at least disfigured her. At the end of the episode, Mallory was involved in a hit and run that may have been fatal. Beauty in Black is the epitome of trash television although that may be part of the allure for some viewers.
After all, the poor reviews and trashiness of the show mean the expectations should be pretty low. With that being said, it’s easy to see that the criticism is justified. The acting isn’t great, the dialogue is corny, and there are plenty of stereotypes here. Nevertheless, Beauty in Black can easily be a guilty pleasure for viewers willing to accept whatever comes next.
The story is simple enough to digest so the show can be left on in the background. Just don’t expect some meaningful series that is going to leave viewers teary-eyed. The opening episode scores a 5 out of 10. Recaps of Beauty in Black can be found here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link.
