A new factual drama set to appear on BBC One will attempt to tell the story of the families grieving for the victims of serial killer Stephen Port who was dubbed the Grindr Killer. The Barking Murders is a collaboration between Jeff Pope and Neil McKay who were responsible for The Moorside and Appropriate Adult. The drama will tell the story from the viewpoint of the families of the victims while focusing on their fight to uncover the truth about what really happened to their lost sons and brothers.
Stephen Merchant, who is best known for his roles in Fighting With My Family, Extras and The Office, is set to play Stephen Port. Sheridan Smith will play Sarah Sak, the mother of Anthony Walgate. Smith worked with Jeff Pope and Neil McKay on The Moorisde. Jaime Winstone is also set to join the cast. David Blair will direct the television drama.
The drama will span over three episodes with each lasting 60 minutes a piece. It was written by Neil McKay and will be directed by David Blair. The Barking Murders will be co-produced by BritBox, which will premiere the show in the United States. The drama is set to tell the story of the four victims of Stephen Port.
