Part 11 Arm in Arm – The episode opens in the past. At a park, Heather (Roz Hammond) sits on a bench. Kate Fletcher (Lucy Goleby) joins her. Heather says the file is in her bag. Kate warns that she has been compromised and needs to disappear immediately. A woman takes Heather’s daughter, Charlotte, as Kate and a man escort her away. Charlotte’s backpack is left on the bench. In the present, Heather holds a card that she made for Charlotte. Graham (Nicholas Bells) points out that she never sent any of them. She tells him that today is Charlotte’s (Sophie McCrae) 25th birthday. He assures her that Charlotte would admire her if she knew what she had done. He believes she doesn’t belong there with the rest of them. In the woods, Stella Heikkinene/Anika (Marta Dusseldorp) places a bouquet on Robin’s (Yael Stone) makeshift grave. She tells Robin that white lilies would have been suitable for her death anniversary but none were available. Pulling up her pant leg, she sees a leech and hysterically swipes at it. At Silverstein Lake, Constable Sharon (Katie Robertson) rags Constable Rick (Rob Braslin) about not telling his girlfriend living in another country about them. He argues that New Zealand isn’t exactly another country. Wading through the river to an overturned vehicle, she suggests being work partners. He readily agrees. Continuing to argue, she pries open the car door and a decapitated arm floats to the surface. She tells him to grab it but he refuses without gloves.

Inside a parked police cruiser, Constable Jason Delaney (Andre de Vanny) pretends to be in a high-speed chase. Assistance needed at Silverstein Lake squeals across the radio. Firing up the sirens, he speeds toward the location. Elsewhere, Stella homeschools Otis Heikkinen (Imi Mbedla) and Iris Heikkinen) Ava Caryofyllis). He complains about not going to normal school. She claims to enjoy it. Iris expresses dislike for the gunman and asks what they wanted. Stella assures her that everything is fine. In his office, something on the Internet catches Sammi’s (Ilai Swindells) eyes and notifies Bong Cha (Kim Ko) who is engrossed in painting her nails. He insists she come over quickly. At the café, Magda (Pamela Rabe), Heather, and Kerry (Elle Mandalis) hear a clatter of horse hooves outside. Stella, Otis, and Iris also hear it from their house. They walk out on the balcony and see the back of Frankie McLeish (Kerry Fox) riding on a horse. The street fills with locals. Covered in blood, Frankie turns and smiles at them. Some of the locals assumed Stella killed Frankie after what happened to Manfred (Anthony J Sharpe). Stella denies killing him. Magda points out that Frankie disappeared 427 days ago and asks what happened. Frankie climbs down from the horse. Stella explains that things have changed and the town is more peaceful. None of the locals show their support for Stella. Frankie asks Tarquin (Ben Knight) to take care of her horse and walks away.

At Silverstein Lake, The overturned vehicle is loaded onto a rollback tow truck. Rick tells Jason about the decomposed corpse found in the vehicle. Jason sees four bullet holes in one of the doors. Sharon continues to nag Rick. Mustering the nerve, Jason briefly looks at the corpse. In town, Magda explains her theory of how the blood got on Frankie from a sliced artery. Heather adds that the victim died suddenly. Jason arrives and asks to speak with Stella alone but she refuses. Kerry asks what they should do with Frankie. He informs them of Frankie’s vehicle, riddled with bullet holes, being pulled from Silverstein Lake. Jeremiah (Toby Leonard Moore) says she is alive. Jason tells them about the corpse found in the vehicle. Tarquin claims the body is that of Arthur (Oscar Redding). Stella suggests Frankie is out for revenge. Heather warns that the murder will pull the town into the spotlight. Stella orders Sammi to hack their systems and look for signs that point them directly there. She urges everyone to stay clear of a very dangerous Frankie until she figures out what to do with her. Bong Cha asks if she is going to kill her. Stella says no. Elsewhere, Jack (Mitchen Everett) and Brony (Emily Milledge) are watching Buzz (Hank Martin) play when Frankie appears. Stunned, he reluctantly embraces her.

Jeremiah suggests it would be safer for Stella and the kids to have a man around. She scoffs and assures him that she can protect her kids. She regrettably says their relationship hasn’t reached that stage. He urges her to let him stay with them for a few nights but she refuses. Jason arrives home to find Brony and Buzz there. She tells him that she can’t stay at Jack’s with Frankie living there. When he offers to upgrade, she asks for real butter. He goes to pick some up. Stella arrives home to find Neil Roebuck (Benedict Hardie) helping Iris with her homework. She sends Iris away. Roebuck informs her of Thaddeus’ (Matt Nable) death. Stella offers her condolences. He threatens her kids if she doesn’t deliver. She says it’s in the early phase and asks if it will be over once she delivers. Later, Stella urges Tarquin to start cooking. He suggests asking Frankie for the recipe but she refuses. She tells him to search Connor’s (Bob Franklin) garage for anything useful. Iris asks if she can go because she loves to cook. Stella says she wouldn’t like what they are making. Tarquin leaves. Otis complains about learning calculus and taunts her about being a working mum. A short time later, Stella asks Heather and Magda to watch Otis and Iris. Magda refuses but Heather readily agrees. She complains about what schools are teaching children. Heather takes Otis and Iris to her mushroom farm and introduces them to the Mycena interrupta “Pixie’s Parasol.” She allows Iris to pick one.

Frankie tells Jack that it is possible to fight death. She promises him to be a proper mum when the doorbell rings. She opens the door to find Tarquin on his knees. He tells her to go ahead and do it. Calling him Pumpkin, she tells him to stand and asks why she would harm him after everything he has done for her. Jack watches from the doorway. She claims to have turned over a new leaf and promises not to kill Tarquin. She invites him in and asks what Stella has been doing. At the warehouse, Stella scolds Tarquin for being late. He claims to have remembered the 42-step recipe and wrote it down. She starts cooking. Elsewhere, Magda badgers Heather for agreeing to babysit. Heather claims to have enjoyed it and suggests they diversify their day. Iris realizes Otis has disappeared. At a track, he and Jack eat mushrooms. He compares the taste to that of cow poop and suggests Jack could use it with Frankie returning from the dead. At the warehouse, Stella boasts of their hard work paying off when a barrel of liquid ignites. Tarquin quickly extinguishes it. The room fills with thick smoke. As they start to go out for air, all the barrels of liquid ignite. They take off running for cover when the warehouse explodes. They inhale deeply. A barrel drops nearby.

Jeremiah gives Stella a plate garlic chicken. She adds seasoning. He asks if that is necessary when they hear someone enter. Armed with a knife, she leads the way. An intoxicated Otis appears and asks why she smells bad. She claims to have been cooking and asks him to go to bed. He greets Jeremiah in passing. She asks if he still believes Otis doesn’t need discipline. The next day, Jason coaxes Buzz to eat. Frankie arrives and insists the caravan is no place for Buzz to grow up. Brony demands to know what she wants. Frankie invites them to come live with her. Brony pulls the door shut but Frankie puts out her foot. She asks Jason about Arthur’s corpse. He admits to seeing it when it was taken to the Queenstown Morgue. He tells her that Hobart Forensics will be there next week. She leaves without speaking. Elsewhere, Heather informs Magda that she has agreed to teach Otis and Iris. Shutting the door, Magda assumed they enjoyed their lives. Heather criticizes her disdain for children. After a bit of back-and-forth, Heather rejoins the children. Elsewhere, Stella confronts Frankie for giving Targuin a recipe that nearly killed them. Frankie accuses her of prying into other people’s affairs. Stella says rumor has it she killed Thaddeus. Taking measurements of a boarded-up building, Frankie says every family has problems. Stella asks for help in making heroin to clear her debt. Frankie accuses her and Jeremiah of taking her heroin shipment and refuses to help her. Stella claims to have seen Behrouz (George Kanaan) be killed and fears Roebuck will do the same to her family if he doesn’t get his $2m worth of heroin. Frankie mocks her and demands she return Arthur’s body to her.

Stella tells Jeremiah about Frankie’s demand and suggests switching Arthur’s body with Robin’s. He points out the gender differences. She recalls Jason saying the badly decomposed body couldn’t be identified. He refuses to do it for Frankie. She says Robin was innocent and deserves a funeral with her family. He warns that the police investigation could lead to her. Later, Stella digs up Robin’s body. She, Bong Cha, and Jeremiah strategize how to replace the body. At the police station, Sharon and Rick disagree on her online match, Joey. Posing as Special Ops Mel Rogan and Bryce Kennedy, Jeremiah and Stella ask to see Arthur’s body. Sharon criticizes Rick for breaking the morgue air conditioner. He denies the allegation and leads to the Queenstown Butcher Shop. Mary (Sina Jo Mansell) asks if they are back together. Sharon says no but she has a date. Rick informs them that Arthur’s arm floated away and asks if they are in trouble. Stella assures them that they are in the clear if it is in the report. She and Jeremiah enter the freezer alone. Bong Cha creates a diversion so Jeremiah and Stella can switch out the bodies. Stella prays for forgiveness before chopping off Robin’s arm. He gags. Bong Cha lies on the sidewalk with foam drooling from her mouth, surrounded by Rick, Mary, Sharon, and several locals. Jeremiah and Stella drag her to the truck and head for home. Sharon and Rick admit to being terrified Bong Cha was going to die and make up. Elsewhere, Magda and Heather make up. Heather stuffs Charlotte’s card into a book and replaces it on the shelf.

Stella buries Robin’s arm. Elsewhere, Frankie buries Arthur’s body. She apologizes for not protecting him and vows to avenge his murder. Carrying shovels, they meet in town and start their heroin venture.

Bay Of Fires Review

Although the episode revealed very little of Heather’s past, it was improved from previous episodes. The director succeeded in making me laugh a few times. The series is more of a drama but a bit of humor is a good thing. The episode deserves a 5.6 out of 10.
