Back To Life Season 1 Episode 4 Recap

back to life tv series

At the start of the episode, Mandy (Christine Bottomley) goes to the cliff’s edge and screams. Meanwhile, we see that Miri (Daisy Haggard) had some type of scar on her shoulder. She is scheduled to go visit someone with her mother Caroline (Geraldine James). As soon as they leave, Samuel (Frank Feys) the journalist begins snooping around their house. Miri tries to play prison games with her mother but Caroline doesn’t seem eager to play along. Their conversation is still very awkward. Oscar (Richard Durden) experiences pain while urinating so he decides to blame Caroline for sleeping around.

Soon, Oscar gets a visit from Samuel. The journalist makes an excuse to get inside of the home. He compliments Oscar for being eco-friendly and refers to him as a Viking. Caroline and Miri run into a fox and run their car off the road. They stop and check on the animal. When they discover that it is still breathing, they decide to show it sympathy by killing it. After a brief argument, Caroline smashes the fox in the head with a piece of wood. Miri refuses to leave until they give the animal a proper burial.

Samuel convinces Oscar that their home is wasting energy somewhere. He promises to find the source of the problem and rectify it. During this time, Oscar gets a text message on Miri’s phone. It is from Dom (Jamie Michie) and is sexual in nature. Caroline becomes concerned when he finds that her phone is missing. Miri walks to the nearby store so she can use the phone. Mandy visits the store in hopes of finding Miri there. Instead, she finds Nathan (Liam Williams) who is packing boxes.

Nathan explains that Miri will not be back since they’re relocating. Mandy tells him that they should have sex since that would solve problems for both of them. Nathan becomes confused, Mandy apologizes, and leaves. Nathan tells himself that he still has it once she is left alone. Caroline finds out that they’re going to be waiting a few hours. Oscar returns the text messages to Dom and agrees to meet with him. Miri tells her mother that she has been very weird with her since she was released. Caroline confesses that she killed the fox so they wouldn’t have to talk about Miri’s past.

She claims she is a horrible mother but Miri suggests otherwise. She wants her mother to begin asking her questions so they can have proper conversations. Samuel continues snooping through the house while Oscar leaves. Once Oscar is gone, Samuel finds the picture of young Miri and her friends. He also discovers the tape recording in the trash. Oscar encounters Dom and gives him a proper beating. He tells Dom to stay away from his wife. Mandy arrives at the Matteson house and finds Oscar there. She learns that everyone is gone.

He shows her the picture and makes it clear that he knows all about the past. Miri and Caroline finally have a real conversation before the van arrives to fix the tire. Mandy goes to Lara Boback’s grave and speaks about old times. Miri and Caroline make it back home. Oscar doesn’t reveal anything when they spot a scratch on his face. Caroline gives him a kiss and it appears that Oscar is willing to overlook their problem. That night, Mandy is forced to please herself while her husband sleeps. Miri gets into bed and finds a note hidden in her pillow. The note makes a comment about Chief Inspector Boback not being an honorable guy. Samuel listens to the audio tape as the episode comes to an end.

Back To Life Review

Back To Life isn’t the most realistic show but I like it. It has flaws here and there but they’re pretty easy to ignore. The show is humorous and it works most of the time. Some of the jokes are hit and miss but most of them are okay. It is slightly sad as well. I like the series but I think it would be better if it took itself a little more seriously. As long as you know what you’re getting in advance, you will likely enjoy the show.

I’d give the episode a 7 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Back to Life before you leave!
