On January 13, 2019, Ron Sanders, President of Worldwide Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures Group and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced that Aquaman had taken in more than $1 billion worldwide. The announcement comes just one month after it reigned supreme in its first market, China. Aquaman is now the 2nd highest grossing Warner Bros. film of all time internationally. It is the number two DC film ever and ranks just behind “The Dark Knight Rises”.
The Dark Knight Rises brought in $1.08 billion. At this point, Aquaman has racked in $1.02 billion. Aquaman is directed by James Wan. It tells the origin story of half-surface dweller, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry. Curry is taken on the journey of a lifetime as he is forced to face who he really is and whether or not he is worthy of being a king. The action-packed adventure stars Jason Momoa as Curry and Amber Heard as Mera.
The film has been released in 3D, 2D and IMAX. It is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Picture. Aquaman has been rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi violence, action and some language. The full press release can be found here.
