series 1 episode 5 apples never fall logan

Troy – As the fifth episode of Apples Never Fall begins, Troy Delaney (Jake Lacy) wakes up and goes training. He remembers playing with Stan (Sam Neill) who he believes cheated him. Troy tells Harry Haddad (Parker Little) that he’s cheating and everyone can see it. They end up fighting until Stan slaps Troy and Joy intervenes. Later, Troy and Amy agree that the serves were in. Stan tells the family that Harry’s dad fired him because of what happened. Joy (Annette Bening) claims it is no one’s fault before Stan rushes out of the house. Stan and Brooke (Essie Randles) check out the damage done to the tennis court. Brooke asks if she can crash at his place for a while. Stan quickly agrees to let her stay. Brooke called Gina but she didn’t pick up.

Elena Camacho (Jeanine Serralles) and Ethan Remy (Dylan Thuraisingham) approach them to show them a newspaper clipping they found in Savannah’s rented room. They believe Savannah (Georgia Flood) had been plotting to get into their family for a while. Ethan asks how Savannah got the money she left with. Stan tells them to speak to Troy. As they leave, Ethan asks if Stan did what he just thinks he did. Elena confirms Stan just threw his son under the bus. Amy (Alison Brie) finds out that a cheerleader is missing in Jupiter. Simon Barrington (Nate Mann) read about it already. Amy isn’t happy about the amount of attention her mom’s case received compared to the cheerleader. She decides she is going to make them look for Joy.

Logan (Conor Merrigan Turner) calls Indira Chaundry (Pooja Shah) who hasn’t heard from him in months. Logan says he can’t find the insurance info for the boat. Indira thinks it’s in the glove box, but she took a picture of it in case he needs it. Logan asks if she’s talked to his mom at all recently. Indira says no. Troy speaks to Lucia Fortino (Katrina Lenk) and admits he hasn’t heard anything about his mom. He gives her a necklace. Lucia questions how she is supposed to wear it. Troy tells her she can wear it naked with him or out so everybody can see it. Lucia believes this is Troy going through a crisis, but he quickly denies it. He says he is seeing clearly for the first time. He’s finally realized that his life is empty without someone right by his side. Troy asks her to be with him out in the open.

He pleads with her just to think about it before leaving. Brooke messages Troy to ask if he gave Savannah money. Troy shakes his head before he sees Monty Fortino (Timm Sharp) nearby. In a flashback, Troy talks to Monty about playing tennis. Troy agrees to be his ringer. The Conrad Williams Show is on the television behind Troy. The episode, which is about escaping abusers, seems to catch Troy’s attention. Brooke massages Stan who asks if business is going well. She claims she is getting tons of pickleball injuries. Brooke receives a video from Troy. It’s the video about the abusers. She watches it with her dad. Stan says that’s the same story Savannah told them the night she arrived. Brooke wants to tell Joy, but they can’t because she’s out hiking with Savannah.

As they hike, Savannah admits she has something she needs to tell Joy. While Joy was in the hospital, Savannah had an encounter with Stan in which he saw her just about naked. Savannah says nothing came out of it, but it made her feel uncomfortable and vulnerable. Later, Stan shows Joy the video and argues they cannot trust Savannah. He thinks they should make her leave because she’s a con artist. Joy doesn’t think they’ve been conned though. She asks about seeing Savannah naked. Stan says he ran into her in the kitchen and it was awkward. He is adamant he wants Savannah gone so Joy agrees to talk to her. When Joy approaches Savannah, they look at the photos they took today. Savannah says she feels there has been so much beauty in her life since she got there.

Joy leaves the room. Later, Troy tells Savannah about the property he is going to keep. Troy wants to do something to help Savannah get back on her feet to repay her for helping his parents. He offers to give her $10,000 so she doesn’t have to live with his parents anymore, but Savannah admits she likes living with them. Troy questions why she stole her “damsel in distress” bit from a talk show. Savannah wasn’t planning on doing this, but she asks if he is sleeping with his boss’s wife. She admits she snooped a bit. When Troy asks what she wants, Savannah says $40,000 in cash. Otherwise, she’ll go over to Fortino Ventures and speak to his boss, Monty. Troy offers to give her the 40k as long as she gets out of town. Savannah tells him to bring the money to his parent’s house tomorrow.

She tells him that none of them deserve Joy. In the present, Amy records a video to tell everyone about Joy. Troy goes to the office where a crying Monty tells him Lucia is not coming in to work today. Monty explains they got into a terrible fight over the necklace. He found it hidden in her boots. Monty is going to take it to the jeweler’s to see if it is traceable. After hours of arguing, Lucia finally admitted to having an affair. Monty is going to destroy the guy if he finds out who he is. Next, Troy tells Amy what happened. Amy tells him she’d quit her job if she were him. Troy claims they’re in love and he thinks Lucia feels the same. Amy tells him to come clean and accept the consequences. She explains she made a video and posted it on her social media pages to keep Joy’s story alive.

Amy intends to use Troy’s money to offer a $50,000 reward. Troy let her borrow his credit card one time and she memorized the number. Logan tries to clean up the debris at the marina. He learns that a couple of guys nearby are watching a video of the storm. One of them is preparing for a deep state government assault on all of their assets and that’s why he has so many cameras. Logan convinces him to send him the footage from nine or ten days. Troy returns to Monty and admits he bought the necklace and loves Lucia. Monty learns they’ve been having sex for about a year now. He attacks Troy and grabs a golf club. Monty reminds Troy he was like a father to him. Logan gets the security footage from Jeff. He begins watching the videos right away. He hears the sound of something heavy being dragged and seems shocked by what he sees.

In a flashback, Amy suggests talking to Joy when Savannah isn’t around. She admits Savannah might have a reasonable explanation for why she lied. Logan says they’ll talk to Joy tonight and present a united front. Troy believes Savannah will be leaving soon. In private, Stan tells Troy he shouldn’t give Savannah any money. Savannah sees Harry Haddad on television before the others join them. Troy tries to give her the money, but Savannah won’t take it from him. In the present, Simon finds Amy using his printer. He tells her that they found the cheerleader who had just run off with some guy. Amy has received a lot of emails from people who watched her video, but none of them are helpful. Some think the government is hiding Joy in the basement of a pizza shop.

Logan arrives to show Brooke the video. It’s from the night Joy went missing. Logan wants Brooke to come with him when he takes the video to the cops. She refuses. Lucia visits Troy at home to talk about what has happened. Troy says they can be together now. Lucia complains he just blew up her life. Lucia loved the risk, the illicitness, the fun, and the secret weekend getaways. She says this is not fun. Lucia thinks Troy is freewheeling because of his mom. She alleges he destroyed his surrogate father because he doesn’t have the balls to confront his real dad. Lucia believes he punched the wrong dad. She is adamant that their affair is over. Once she storms out, the detectives show up outside Troy’s door. They ask about the money. Troy says he wants to tell them why he thinks his dad killed his mom.

In the past, Joy watches a match with Stan, Savannah, and the others. Savannah believes Brooke told her she stopped playing because of her ankle. Troy follows Savannah into the kitchen to say he brought the money so it’s time to go. Savannah admits she is having second thoughts. Logan and the others try to talk to Joy about Savannah. Joy insists they’re overreacting. Savannah interrupts to ask Stan why Harry fired him. She says no one in the family talks about it. Stan wants to tell her she has to leave while Joy tries to stop her. Savannah keeps pushing until Stan blames Troy for him losing Harry. Troy begins telling them how he’s been cleaning up their messes. He admits he asked Garces to buy them out because the thing is a money pit.

Stan claims Troy destroyed their legacy. They argue about the match and whether the serves were in. Troy gets upset when Stan mentions his marriage. Joy interrupts to confess she made Harry leave. She called Harry’s dad and told him he’d need a better coach if he was ever going to make it to a Grand Slam. Joy claims Stan was obsessed and Harry mattered more to him than anything. Stan hit her son so she had to do something. Savannah walks out of the house. In the present, Troy finishes telling the detectives the same story. He says it is in their DNA to protect their father. Stan doesn’t forgive. As they leave, Elena believes they know Stan’s motive. Ethan isn’t sure it’s enough without a body. Logan watches the video of someone who looks like Stan moving a heavy object onto the boat.

He sends the video to Elena. Stan gets a chainsaw so he can clean up the mess at the tennis court. Troy visits to tell him he told the cops everything. He told them he wished he’d been able to save Joy from him. Troy thought he should come there and tell him in person like a man. He walks away as Stan yells at him. Elena gets the email from Logan and tells Ethan that they’ve got him. Stan begins groaning and grabbing his chest. He falls to the ground.

Apples Never Fall Review

The fifth episode of Apples Never Fall is at least rounding the corner and the finale is now in sight. Seven episodes were probably too many for the series which is now tedious. The decision to relocate the setting to Florida was a serious mistake because much of the poor acting can be attributed to the actors and actresses attempting to emulate American accents. On top of that, it’s hard to know what the relocation achieved.

The characters remain just as unlikable as ever so it’s hard to care too much about the outcome of the investigation. Even the detectives are worthless and poorly performed. In fact, they’re quite possibly the worst of the entire bunch. If the show’s world was just, the entire family would be locked in cages for the good of humanity. Better yet, the hurricane could’ve finished off the Delaney cult.

Although there are some hints of originality here, there aren’t many and most viewers have seen all of this before. How many unoriginal twists and personal dramas can the series add before it reaches the finish line? It’d probably be possible to just watch the opening episode and the last without missing anything important. By doing that, you can avoid pulling out your hair at the stupidity of the over-privileged, immature characters.

It’s odd for the series to poke fun at conspiracy theories and their believers out of the blue when no one could be dumber than the Delaney clan. This episode scores a 3.5 out of 10.
