As the 14th episode begins, George (Erik Thomson) begins writing about his brother Terry. Terry (Ditch Davey) arrives home. George isn’t happy to see that Terry has been drinking. Back in the present, George writes about his brother and his belief that his brother will ruin things in Weld. Back in the past, George and Terry chat about the new business arrangement. We see that Terry has received assistance from all of the locals. He gets help from Brenda (Renee Lyons), Zac (Rob Kipa-Williams), and Sean (Jesse Griffin). Then, Terry meets up with Robbie (Millen Baird). Robbie wants to chat about the guest list, but Terry isn’t interested. George heads inside and sees Woody (Rick Donald) and the others helping Terry prepare for the opening.
George speaks with Woody about his brother. Woody seems convinced that everything will be fine. Shay (Melina Vidler) gets a visit from Robbie. He is interested in one of the Dennis paintings. Shay promises to see what she can do. Then, Shay runs into Ollie (Henry Beasley). Ollie mentions Ike (Alex Tarrant) dumping her. Shay isn’t happy to hear that. At work, George speaks with Big Mac (Peter Elliott) and Gloria (Jackie van Beek) about the newspaper. Big Mac makes it clear that he wants George to write something good about the new restaurant. George tries to warn Big Mac about his brother, but he doesn’t listen. He believes Kai Nui will be good for Weld. George is also told that he will be making a speech during the opening.
George speaks with Jan (Bridie Carter) about his dilemma. She tells him that it would be a bad idea to speak out against his brother. Shay runs into Ike. They argue back and forth briefly. Next, Shay is stopped by a drone. She soon finds out that it belongs to Ollie. They spend a few minutes messing with Sean using the drone. George gets a call from Fiona (Michelle Langstone). Fiona is not happy that Robbie stole Hannah (Cian Elyse White) from her. Seconds later, George visits Hannah. He finds Fiona already there. George tries to talk sense into Terry and Hannah, but they refuse to listen. Fiona tells George that they might have a common enemy, but that doesn’t change things. She still wants an answer about the kids. Shay decides to give Robbie a Dennis painting. Arlo (Benson Jack Anthony) and the others get jobs from Robbie in exchange for money and school credit.
Arlo seems to be winning points with Lindsay (Manon Blackman). George visits his brother. He encourages him not to do anything to hurt Arlo. They chat about their early days, when they ran a taco truck together. Shay hangs her Dennis painting in the new restaurant. George visits Shay and apologizes for his brother. Monty (Jonny Brugh) arrives and admits he is not happy with his brother’s business venture either. Ollie stops Shay again. He invites her to the restaurant opening, since he’ll be working there. Arlo and Lindsay chat at Terry’s restaurant. She learns about Emma breaking up with him. Then, we jump forward. The opening party begins. Shay learns from Robbie that people were interested in the painting. Lindsay tells Arlo about how Daniel left her on the side of the road in Balls. She sincerely apologizes for ruining his relationship with Emma. Moments later, George learns that the locals have been shut out of the party.
He promises to speak with Robbie about it, but the locals go their own way. When George speaks with Robbie, he is told that his speech has been canceled. George tells Shay to watch Arlo. Then, he joins the locals. All the while, Ollie continues bringing food to Shay. Fiona speaks with Shay and learns about George. Shay also finds out why their relationship suddenly ended. George enjoys foods with the locals. Siouxsie (Olivia Tennet) contemplates taking revenge. Rae (Nathalie Boltt) tries to buy Shay’s painting. Shay tries to talk her out of it, but she has no luck. Then, she learns that Arlo has been great. Katie (Anna Jullienne) is shocked to find the Dennis painting in the restaurant. Then, George finds Arlo making out with Lindsay. He stops them and tells them to get in the car. After George leaves, they agree that George won’t be happy with their relationship. They continue anyway.
George speaks with Terry. Terry believes that George refused to give a speech on his behalf. He punches George in the face. George returns home and finishes his column about his brother.
800 Words Review
This series is so cheesy it isn’t even funny. It feels like a guilty pleasure. It isn’t great, but it isn’t terrible either. Nevertheless, I find it somewhat entertaining from start to finish. Some episodes are better than others. This one was okay, but very predictable. It was clear that Arlo and Lindsay would hit it off eventually. So, what will happen now? Will Terry ruin everything as George believes? We’ll find out soon enough. The episode scores a 6.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of 800 Words now!
