Stalker: Skin Review

In the latest episode of CBS’ Stalker, the skinheads come to town and terrorize a man’s normally calm neighborhood. In order to receive protection from the Threat Assessment Unit, the man must reveal the truth about his spotty past.

A friendly neighborhood cookout is interrupted by Jax Teller and the Sons. Mark Evan Richards (Marc Blucas) fears for his family’s safety and ushers them inside. Next, his wife Christina (Christina Vidal) is reading a book to their child, when she screams out. Mark gets out of the shower and rushes to her side. They discover their house has been vandalized and the yard is burning. Mark is also covered with prison tats. Is he a member of the Aryan Nation?

Meanwhile, the Richards visit the TAU, where they meet with Jack Larsen (Dylan McDermott) and Beth Davis (Maggie Q). While Jack interviews Mark, Beth interviews Christina. Ben Caldwell (Victor Rasuk) tells Janice Lawrence (Mariana Klaveno) about skinheads beating up his brother in high school. Christina truly believes that Mark has changed. Mark suggests Beth isn’t going to help him, due to his ties to the Nazi skinheads.

Janice gives the crew a history lesson on the Aryan Nation and skinheads. Jack says he believes that Mark is actually trying to change. Beth gives the go ahead to start digging up dirt on the stalkers. That night, Mark is trying to sleep, when a scrapping noise disturbs him. He hears cartoons on the television. His son enters and says he wanted to watch television, as silhouettes pass by the curtains outside. Mark gets a harassing phone call. The house appears to be surrounded and a gun’s laser is pointed at all members of the family. A shot rings out and we hit a commercial break.

After the show returns, Mark confirms he recognized the name of his harasser, as Chad Hewitt (Darri Ingolfsson). Mark says he thought Chad was still in prison. It is discovered that Mark was Chad’s mentor and Chad now runs a white supremacist group. Jack discovers that a neighbor has a surveillance camera. Of course, none of the neighbors want to help the former skinhead.

Ben and Beth pay Chad a visit. Despite being a skinhead group, everybody has hair. Chad suggests the group is a separatists group and nothing more. Chad blames Mark for getting locked in prison. Ben is a little overzealous and attempts to arrest Chad, but is immediately stopped by Beth.

Jack repeats Mark’s phrases that you’re “nothing without family”. He suggests Chad wants Mark to return to the brotherhood. Trent Wilkes (Warren Kole) enters and informs the team that they’ve been investigating Chad for months. He is afraid the TAU is going to spook Chad and blow their investigation.

Christina takes her son, Landon, to the park. Chad shows up and speaks with Landon. Chad suggests Landon should tell his dad to come and see him. After Christina shows up, Chad questions her mothering skills.

Wilkes attempts to coax Mark into giving up Chad. After Mark returns home, Landon is out playing in the backyard and finds an explosive device outside, which later explodes. Meanwhile, Chad is seen working on one of his motorcycles. He is attacked by Mark. Despite being beaten, Chad is happy and says he knew Mark hadn’t changed, before Mark knocks him unconscious.

Mark turned himself in, after the attack on Chad. Thankfully, the kids are okay. Beth interviews Mark and suggests he could potentially be facing jail time. Mark explains nothing is going to end, until one of them is dead. It seems Amanda Taylor (Elisabeth Rohm) and Jack are beginning to be cordial again. Jack thanks her for letting him stay.

Ben finally gets the surveillance video, which shows Chad’s truck arriving at Mark’s house. Next, two skinheads turn themselves in and take the blame for stalking Mark’s house. Beth interviews Chad, who is displaying wounds on his face. Chad insists bombs are for cowards and denies everything. Beth continues belittling Chad, who makes fun of Beth’s nationality. On the way out, Ben instigates a fight, which allows the team to arrest Chad.

Jack and Beth agree that Chad didn’t set the bomb, since he doesn’t want Mark dead. They now believe someone within the neighborhood set the bomb. Mark is back at the house packing his belongings. After the lights go out, Mark is attacked by his Chinese neighbor. The man appears to take a razor blade to Mark’s Nazi tattoos.

After the show returns, Wilkes and Larsen arrive in the neighborhood. Beth calls and informs Jack about Harold, the neighbor. They enter the house and hear Mark moaning. They find him with all of his tattoos sliced off. Jack finds the bomb making materials in Harold’s home. Meanwhile, Wilkes continues searching the house, when he is attacked and stabbed in the stomach. Harold holds Wilkes down, before Jack saves the day and arrests Harold.

And the epic ending music starts. This time it is Duran Duran’s “Hungry like the Wolf”. Beth tells Ben he did a great job, before leaving. She returns home and receives a package. Amanda and Wilkes share a moment. Wilkes suggests Ethan should have a right to see Jack. Ethan listens in, as Elizabeth says it is complicated. Beth opens the package and pulls out a stuffed bear, which is identical to the one from her childhood.

Review

Stalker has been consistently good from the very beginning, despite the negative critics. If they didn’t like the violence towards woman, they should have loved this episode, since all of the violence was dealt out on men. Overall, the skinhead Nazi motorcycle gang was a fun plot. Marc Blucas and Darri Ingolfsson performed well in their respective roles. I really enjoyed Ingolfsson’s crazed white separatist role.

Overall, it was a good episode and ended perfectly with a remake of the Duran Duran hit “Hungry like the Wolf”. It seems Perry is beginning to get to Beth, while Jack’s troubles seem to be fading away. A good episode that deserves an 8.5 out of 10.
