Arthur and John leave, but remain upset by the fact that Tommy spoke with Michael and Polly before them. They immediately head to the kitchen for drinks. While there, an argument breaks out between Arthur and Michael. Michael insists he didn’t request to meet with Tommy separately, while Arthur and John complain about the family meetings, which have all but stopped. The bickering stops, when the group discovers that Thomas has fled with Johnny Dogs (Packy Lee). Thomas leaves a note saying he’ll be back in a few days, but keeps everything else a secret. That night, Arthur and John drink with Michael and attempt to teach him to shoot. The scene turns frightening, as the duo allow Michael to experience the sensation of pointing a gun at a human being. Michael seems enamored by the feeling and doesn’t stop, until Polly interrupts. She tells him to go inside. Michael is having none of it and tells Polly he is no longer a child. Next, John and Arthur pay a visit to the Lanchester auto plant. They speak to the manager and provide him with a list of Communist on his payroll. He is told to fire all of the men at a rate of two a week. They’re forced to threaten the man’s children, but eventually get him to compile with their orders. Polly meets up with Ruben (Alexander Siddig) for the portrait. During their conversation, Ruben admits he wants to seduce Polly, but their actions go no further.

Tommy finally reaches his destination and speaks with Bethany Boswell (Frances Tomelty) regarding the sapphire. He eventually gets the answer he desires, when she confirms that the stone has been cursed. This gives him the peace of mind that Grace’s death wasn’t entirely his fault. With that, Tommy tells Johnny they’re going to have a big party that night. Next, we see Vicente and his wife at the train depot. Two men begin to approach and Vicente enlists the assistance of a police officer to escort him and his wife to the train. Unfortunately for him, the officer delivers him into the hands of the Shelby gang. Although it takes some encouragement, John and Arthur manage to spare Vicente’s wife, while making off with their primary target. Vicente is quickly taken back to Tommy, who prepares to torture the man, until the sun rises in the morning.

Tommy hesitates and paces back and forth. Eventually, he comes to his senses and insists he has forgotten who he is, before approaching his captive angrily. Arthur fires and puts a bullet into the man’s skull. He insists they’re not going to be those men tonight and also tells Tommy about their decision to spare Vicente’s wife. Tommy says very little and returns to Ada. She confirms she spoke with and old friend of Eddie’s and learned about their potential rat. Ada attempts to withhold the information, until Tommy agrees that nobody will be killed. Tommy counters by insisting he, John or Arthur will be killed, if they’re unable to stop their enemies first. Tommy gets the name he needs, James Monkland. Seconds later, the police arrest the man and Tommy meets with him at the jail.

Peaky Blinders Review

The third episode of Peaky Blinders was definitely the best of the season and showcased the insanity of the Shelby family. Tommy got revenge on Vicente, but is apparently losing control over his gang in the process. First, John stands up to the leader. Then, Arthur does the same, by putting a bullet in Vicente’s head. Tommy and Arthur may be losing their love for blood, but John has picked up the pieces. And perhaps Michael will put his ruthlessness to good use in the coming episodes?

A good episode overall and a 9 out of 10 is deserved. Be sure to catch up with previous recaps of Peaky Blinders right now!
