Galavant: Joust Friends Review

In the latest episode, Galavant enters a jousting tournament, where he meets rival, Jean Hamm (John Stamos). Galavant hopes to test his skills, in hopes of returning to his glorious form.

Galavant (Joshua Sasse) has a dream, in which he is belittled by Madalena (Mallory Jansen) and King Richard (Timothy Omundson). A song begins, as Gal, Isabella (Karen Davis) and Sid (Luke Youngblood) ride on their horses. The group has a goal, but no plan. When the show returns, the group heads towards Valencia, while Gal proclaims his prowess. Sid notices a flier for a jousting competition.

Meanwhile, Chef (Darren Evans) feeds King Richard, which infuriates Madalena and Gareth (Vinnie Jones). Gareth insults Richard’s manliness, before trying to help him reclaim his wife’s respect. Next, Gal and crew sign up for the jousting tournament. Gal runs into the cocky Jean Hamm, who has already entered the tournament. Since the group doesn’t have money, Isabella gives the jewel to the joust master (Michael Jibson). Thanks to Isabella’s tongue, the Joust master advances Gal to the finals, without fighting a single battle.

When the show returns, Isabella attempts to prepare Galavant for the tournament. He blames his current situation and weakness on Madalena, before the pair begin to duel and train. Meanwhile, Hamm continues to dismantle his opponents. In an attempt to get an upper hand, Isabella pays Hamm a visit and tries to get him drunk. Back at the castle, Richard attempts to show is manliness to Madalena.

Finally, it is times for the main event between Hamm and Galavant. Hamm exits the gate and immediately vomits everywhere. Isabella attempts to give Gal a pep talk, but Gal trained too hard and can’t seem to move his body. Both men put up terrible performances and end up falling from their horses. The joust master declares the winner will be the one that gets up first. Galavant barely stands up, while Hamm falls back over. Sid captures the rooster, which was the prize.

Back at the castle, Richard and Madalena finally begin to thrive. Richard ends up leaving in tears and finding comfort in Gareth’s arms.

Review

The second episode of Galavant was certainly a little better than the first. It was a little more clever and the characters seemed to have more of a purpose. The addition of John Stamos was fun as well. While the show isn’t for everyone, some people will be able to enjoy the quirky humor. The episode deserves a 6.5 out of 10.
