Bad Country is a 2014 film, which stars Matt Dillon and Willem Dafoe. The movie is set in the southern United States in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. When the film starts, we follow the exploits of police detective, Bud Carter (William Dafoe), who happens to bust a major criminal figure, Jesse Weiland (Matt Dillion).

Quickly, we learn that Jesse is a contract killer, who has many names on his victims list. While facing a long prison sentence and pressure from his wife, Lynn Weiland (Amy Smart), Jesse agrees to work with Bud and become an informant. Of course, this brings repercussions quite quickly.

The mob quickly gets wind of Jesse’s action and seek revenge. Their plan of action? Putting a hit out on Carter and labeling Weiland as a snitch, which will have extreme circumstances. While fearing for their lives, the detective and the contract killer team up to bring down the criminal organization and their leader, before they’re struck down themselves.

Overall, Bad Country is a film, which is like a film, which is like a film. To put things simply, there are plenty of other similar films in this genre. However, Bad Country is a little bit unique, because it is set in the southern bayou, which gives it a bit of southern culture. While many actors fail terribly, when it comes to the southern accent, there weren’t many bad apples in this basket.

The film was definitely fun and held my attention throughout. However, it isn’t something you haven’t seen before. Still, it is worth a watch, if you’ve got some time to kill. The film deserves a 6 out of 10.
